Is there any interest in being able to get Sky Raider Mach II's in ARC or kit form?

I would prefer to keep Club 40 racing based on planes that are pre-fabricated. I have spoken to the manufacturer about getting some ARC kits. I believe this will happen.

I have had inquiries about kit form versions of the Sky Raider Mach II. With the ARF prices as low as they are, I don't know if a kit is reasonable or not. I'm sure the information will get out at some point, so I'm going to share that someone has cloned the SRM2 in laser cut kit form.

I'd prefer an ARC version. Would an ARC be lower cost?

I don't know if the ARC will be lower cost or not. If it is, it won't be a lot.

Some people don't prefer the ToughLon and stripping the planes isn't a lot of fun. It's not too bad, but the ToughLon can be hard to get off on parts like the fin. I usually have to clean the adhesive off with acetone.

We will probably get LA Racer 40's in solid colors as well.

We discussed using a KIT is our races in Texas, but the concensus was that it might open up a big can of worms!

There is to much temptation to "redesign" the airframe and use carbon fiber etc. It might turn into a nightmare for the CD to determine if the model fits the guidelines of the class. Each plane would have to be weighed and measured to ensure the dimentions were accurate.

Also, AT THIS POINT the rules only allow the ARF version. So a rules change would have to be implemented. I think the ARC is a great idea and should be very popular.

I don't race Club40 but I like the SRM2 and so I follow these forums. I just thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth here.
There have been planes offered as ARF or kit, and in many (most?) of those cases, the design and construction of the two are very different, but the outside dimensions and shapes are the same. The kits are usually designed to be built flat on a board without the use of jigs which are commonly used to assemble ARFs. So while they look the same from the outside, internally, the structure can be quite different.
Another thing to consider is that materials can be substituted for lighter or stronger ones when building from a kit, hence giving one flier an advantage over another. I guess it's not too much of an issue with a minimum weight rule though.

I have poked through the remains of a coupe of Raiders and the construction is very straight forward, nothing in there that requires jigs. The wing can be built flat on a board, you only need a bit of wood to support the rear of the ribs to maintain the correct angle with the spar, and with the tabs on the fuselage. it will self align.

All in all, a very easy plane to build.

For a kit, all World Models would have to do is work on a set of plans / instructions and toss the parts used in building the ARF in a box! (Ok, maybe a bit more than that....)

Later!

The Sky Raider Mach II will be offered in ARC form. The price will be the same as the ToughLon covered models. The first batch will be limited in size as the demand level is unknown. For those who like to recover in their favorite coverings and colors, it will save you time and effort. We are looking at availability in about 90 days.

I noticed a web site that is selling a plane called the Wingman II (www.thewingsmaker.com) that is the same plane as the skyraider that would give us three more colors if that could be approved.

We've had this discussion several times. The "Wingman II" is not the same dimentions as the sky raider mach II. The "Wingman" has a 4"shorter wing and less area. It is also lighter than the 'Raider.
Therefore, it is not a legal plane for RCPRO club 40.
