Well the day finally arrived today and it came without a scratch i was very pleased to see this after it was with greyhound for nearly a week i can see that this is going to be a very nice plane when done setup is as planned only issure i had was it came with white wheel pants which a quick call to tom revealed they were all packed with whites and he will be sending the yellow ones along with my reciever GREAT service not to mention he is the only guy i know that gives a military discount to us guys proudly serving....thanks tom

I'm on it. I bought PTS' Extra from him. I'll have it on Tuesday. I'm considering a DA 85 for my set-up. Keep us updated.

Sweet Please post your progress on here i am going to take a nap i have been up for 36 hours (had the late watch last night) then headed right to annapolis afterwards to get the plane so i am pretty tired but when i get up i plan on going over everything with the iron....i look like a kid on christmas in the pics hehe

Well here is my progress not too impressive got the engine compartment pretty much done first i drilled my holes for the da-100 with the template tom provides just be sure the word DA-100 is vertical Not horizontal it really is a no brainer next i reinforced the glue joints with thin ca followed by pinning the firewall with toothpicks and 30 Minute epoxy then to top it off i sprayed the area down with textured paint stuff really works well i used it on my 41% not to mention it looks pretty good.. got my graphics on order today from kirby's kustom more to follow and please as i go i welcome suggestions/comments so dont be shy..

Be careful with the weight. Every thing you do adds a little weight, after a while it adds up.

My policy is if it's not needed it's not in the plane. Even that paint adds some weight.

This is how I advertise a plane at 26-28 lbs. and it comes out at 30 and people complain without thinking of all the paint, epoxy, batteries, graphics, canisters, power gizmos, and other shiny bits that they put in the plane.

i will keep an eye out on that the way i looked at it was the paint would be lighter then coating the firewall with epoxy for fuelproofing especialy after i sand down the paint so it is just a very thin layer as far as pinning the firewall that is a practice i do on all my planes just for safety reasons i would rather have that little bit of added strength then for it to fail like i said that goes for any airplane.

On my 35% Sukhoi I just put a piece of clear momokote over the tunnel. Seals the tunnel, lets me see in there and keeps that wieght thing Tom was talking about to a minimum.

I rarely seal any of the wood, it's not like a glow engine where you get slimy oil all over everything.

But if I do feel; the need to seal the wood a light coat of clear polyurethane sprayed on will do nicely.

Paint pigments are heavy, so colored paint is heavier than clear. Ans using a paint that dries by evaporation (polyurethane) will end up much lighter than something that dries by chemical reaction like epoxy or 2 part paints.

well i figure with a light sanding it will be good to go i am going to cover the cannister tunnel with monokote instead of lite ply to save weight as well

Yes, in fact that is my preferred way to do it. It keeps the cowl in better shape and provides plenty of cooling and at the same time releases any pressure that might build up in the fuse.

in looking at the bottom cutouts for the cooling setup i imagine that cooling would be more efficient if i opened up the back 2 sets of holes rather then those 2 AND the front set if this makes sense to everyone let me know...also if anyone can i need the extensions required for this plane sizes and quantity please [:D]

Not there yet, unfortunately. I have no gear for the plane except the DA-100, mufflers and ignition... and the hardware kit...

I haven't seen too many people do this, but I usually cover the engine box area with ultracoat. Makes for easy cleanup (needed more for glow planes obviously).

i am opening up both sets of the rear holes (4 altogether) then probably baffling the engine with some thin balsa

i figured this way would be alot better then hacking up a big opening for cooling with stock mufflers it looks so nice without a huge hole in it and i figure this would provide better airflow anyway

hey panzlflyer: Are those EC3 connectors solder type or crimp type? also i noticed two sets of servo bays for the elevators one set is on the fuse the other set in the H stab is this just a matter of preference or is there a certain one i have to use?

Do not put them in the fuse!!!!...thats what I did by mistake and it wont work, they go in the Horizontal stab...work real well there, gives plenty of throw.

EC3 are solder type, the only bad is getting the pins in the sleave leaves a lot to be desired, finally used a thin screwdriver to seat them.
