Recently I have been redesigning the old 47" Yak 54 with new construction techniques similar to the V3 Edge. It will have a tubed and sheeted fuselage, two piece wing that can be left as two-piece or permanently glued to the fuse. Longer tail moment and bigger tail feathers. Wings will be thinner and all new airfoils and tapers. The new Yak should proof to be the perfect intermediate to advanced 40 size profile and fit nicely between the V3 Edge which is the 3D trainer and the 52" Fusion which is clearly in the advanced class.

I started scratching out a prototype this weekend and here are the pics of the fuse and tail feathers. I'll start working on the wings this weekend.
My hopes are to have the first run beta kits available by the Toledo show.

That looks great. Will this plane have a wing tube for the 2 piece wing? The picture of the fuse doesn't look like it has a spot for a phanolic tube.

Nah, no wing tubes. I'm going to use the new super magnets to hold the wings on.

Just kidding. Since this prototype is being hand built and no laser parts I will use a template guide to cut the holes for the twin wing tubes, landing gear and anti rotation points. Just have not done that yet. When I get the root ribs cut out I'll stack all together and drill at the same time to assure a perfect match.

I got the wings finished but still need to build the ailerons. Here are a couple of pics of the parts put together. Anyone have a cool name for this Yak?

I've been slow on this project but finally got some time to start covering. Here is the progress so far. I like the color combinations of yellow, red, and black and will also put some silver or charcoal trimmings on it as well. I can't wait to test fly this new bird. With all the modifications from the original OMP Yak, this should be drastically different and hopefully be a perfect intermediate profile between the Edge and Fusions. I'll post more pics as I make progress on the covering.
