I am looking for a company called Sky Harbor that makes (made?) a nice scale Stilletto racer. Anyone have their contact info? If they are not around, is there anyone making a nice scale composite Mustang racer in a 60 size? Most of the giant scale racers aren't all that scale, and the world models Dago and Voodoo aren't even close.

Sky Harbor R/C has been out of production for the better part of 10 years. It was a small division of a very large woodworking company. The parent company is still around but the Sky Harbor stuff has been in storage for years and they don't seem too interested in digging it out.

The Sky Harbor Stiletto wasn't "very" scale and it wasn't composite, either. It did, however, hold up very well with humongous motors. It had a huge nose and thick firewall.

I'm not aware of any composite (or even very scale) racers in that size range. The only composite ones I can think of are either not-at-all-scale Q-40s for AMA class racing or the giant scale stuff that you're already familair with. There are plenty of ARFs with glass fuses in that size range that are used as warbird racers, but most of them are not very scale.

Are you looking for something to actually race, or something scale to sport-fly?

Something scale to sport fly, and compete at local scale events. No one around here has a scale racer, so I thought it would be cool.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...............not too many done up in racer schemes that I can think of. As you say, the World Dago and Voodoo aren't very scale.

As far as actual racer schemes go, the Thunder Tiger Rare Bear and September Fury are fairly accurate in outline and look really nice. I've got a Rare Bear and it flies exceptionally well. They're bigger than .60 size, though. Can't think of any Mustangs.

For non-racer schemes, Sig just came out with a nice looking B-model Mustang. It's larger than .60-size, too.

VQ Warbirds (www.vqwarbirds.com) have some .60-size Mustangs and such but none are done up as racers. They've got the old legacy type "EZ" finish and don't look very scale.

Top Flite just released a P-51 ARF that looks great. Again, larger than .60-size and not done up as a racer.

Unfortunately, to get exactly what you want, you'll either have to design/build one or peel the covering off a nice ARF and make it into a racer.

Hanger 9 P-51 in the Miss America color scheme actually raced at Reno for many years.

That Hangar 9 Miss A is nice, but I am after the 'super 'Stang" look with the cut down canopy, modded or removed scoop etc. I SUCK at trying to scratch build major parts like that, so that's why I was hoping to find a nice composite bird like that.

He has a Tsunami kit that is composite. I am not sure if he has time to lay them up. He frequents RCU all the time. You can go to his website RCATsystems.com

I have bugged Mike about those several times. IF he ever lays any more up, or sells the molds to someone who will, I will be all over it. If I can get someone good with a Cad program interested, I would like to have a set of CNC molds made for a 60 size exact scale Strega. I have access to a CNC machine, and material, but no programmer to take it on.

Hi guys,

Sorry for missing this. I don't frequent RCU as much as I used to.

I keep trying to get people to lay up Tsunami's for me, but alas, it seems things always get in the way... I've had two people with the molds for the last two years. I have one fuselage to show for it, but I have not been bugging them for parts. I only have about 6 people interested that I know of, over the past two years. The kits seem to be more of a nuisance to make than I have time for.

One of the issues with the Tsunami that I make is that it is pretty scale. What does that mean? It does not fly like every "sport" plane out there and one has to understand how to fly a an aircraft with the airfoil and wing loading that it has. I guess what I am saying is that it is not for everyone.

Hi Mike, did you ever get to fly one of them and how did it stand up to the rest???

I know its been a while since this project was started and yes it sure would be nice to see a composite wing for it,,, I still have a fuse,,, got from Paul,,, plans and stab from you and a set of cores from Bob.

I haven't done much racing in the past few years. I'm sure, given an airframe built light, that it will be competitive. All depends on the course length. Molds exist for a composite wing. The wing molds, however, were built for a slightly thicker wing and the saddle has to be potted on the fuselage.

Mike, You might consider talking with Jerry Bradley. He is producing several kits with composit wings for himself and Ed Rankin. I know he has the skills to lay up these kits as well as the time to do it. His only job is producing and building GSR kits right now. If you got him the molds, I am sure you would get some parts pretty quick....his # is 817-504-8711
