I picked up a nice ST3000 at the Perry show that came with an OS 7D carb, slimline smoke pitts and a perry pump. My question is this; What is the best fuel to use? and do I need to pump this engine? I had a ST2500 that ran great on 15% w/18% oil and no pump, would this one run about the same? Also, do I need to block one of the pitts exhaust tubes to increase back pressure in the engine? I plan on running a 20x6 wood prop.

Thanks

The only way I could get my 3000 to run was with 3% or less nitro and 12% oil. It would preignite and knock with more nitro and or oil. THis was with 18x6 prop pitts muffler, and fox plug. good luck.. Jim

First off, the OS 7D is a Keeper. That means, the prevous owner had a problem as I did on my 3250 and attempted to fix it. This has been a big issue over the last couple years on various boards.
You will hear alot of advice. I did and fell for it all and was a waste of time and pocket change. Big Super tigers are notorious for midrange problems. Here was the list of useless information.
1. larger fuel line all the way around and drill out the clunk.
2. Hotter plug (4 stroke)
3. Plug that one exhaust to increase back pressure.
4. Buy a Pump.
5. Fuel from 5%-15% and then specific brands.
6. Change carbs.

I did it all and removed it all, I went with the OS 7D. I installed this carb with all the orignal stuff back on running 5% Wildcat. Darn thing ran as smooth as a baby's "aaaaaa-fanny".
So, I ended up selling the plane. Got another, Put another 3250 in it. This time I decided on a Perry Carb. But I ran the engine a few times to see if it ran like crap and it did. Installed the Perry and again-very smooth. All this with no modifications of any kind except the carb.
The Big ST's are very powerful and reliable engines if you have a different carb on them. Its this simple.
