What about some Q25 in southern Tx? Is anyone other than the DFW area running them?

I wish the NTX guys would have gone with 424 instead of Q25. I see this as more of a stepping stone. If you want to fly 90-100mph planes, there's the Club 40 series. A natural progression from there is 424 - and you already have the TTPRO 40 that you were using in Club 40. I don't feel like spending the $ on another engine to go about the same speed. 424 is 20-30 mph faster than Club 40, but the planes are, in my opinion, easier to fly. The Viper holds its line better and is doesn't bounce around nearly as much as the SkyRaider.

Skull - hope to see ya Saturday in Waco!

Thanks Tim but I can't make Waco, gonna be laid up till May. I think Q25 is a great place to start. Yes it's the same speed but the Viper can be a real handfull. It's a great place to let someone fly and learn, and then move up. I myself started that way. We had a Viper and put an OS 32 on it, flew the wings off it. We then went to a Jett SS, and learned more, and got use to the speed. Plus if you want a real challenge, put up some poles, (AMA long course) and fly around yourself. My first ever try at that, I had to pull back to half throttle. I guess even though I'm gonna try 428 this year, I still like the Q25 and 424. I guess I'm lucky, I have access to the planes and engines to run all of them. (Maybe "Spoiled" is a better term) LOL

P.S. I'm also working with my club to try and host at least one Q25/C40 race this year.

Eric,

What are the chances of getting some 424/428 in the Houston area this year? I haven't heard anything about Scobee hosting a race this year. I've heard rumor that Dub may be setting up something at Hearne later this year if Scobee doesn't have anything.

I know at least 2 of us maybe more, from Austin would come down for a 424 race. I'm probably going to get a 428 engine soon, so I'd thrown in on that too.

Tim Spoke to Dub last week and he said Dennis is working on it. Maybe Texas City, as far as Scobee or Hearne, I don't know.
We might have to travel to get in on some good racing. What about somewhere in central Tx?

The main problem with having 3 pole races at most of the clubs is the lack of people willing to volunteer as course officials. We have a hard time getting any course workers at most of our races. We get around this by using pilots as officials when the are not flying. We only need 7 course workers for 2 pole races.
This would not work for 3 pole races as it requires 3 times as many workers. (22?)
We could run the fast stuff if pilots would be willing to run a 2 pole course (any length)???
I will CD it if there is enough interest?

With the fast stuff - 330 ft. from pylon line to pilots. That is straight out of the competition regulations.

Chuck,

There was an event at the end of last season where we flew Club 40, 424, 428, and Q40. The setback was DEFINITELY a lot shorter than that. How did we get the waiver there?

If we have to have setbacks that far away, I'm going to have to make the switch to 3-pole!!

Tim,
We got the waiver for that "Demo" based on airspeed. Using "time over distance" calculations, we calculated the "Average Airspeed" of the 424 planes to be under 100 mph on the short 450ft. course. However, this was just a "demo" and not an actual race.
The 428 - 422 planes would definately be much higher. The set back distances are written into the competition regulations for all AMA class racing.
