HerrSavage -> New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 3:09:21 PM)

Well, the Nürnberg Toy Fair seems to be chock full of new goodies...(especially engines.. See the 5 new Novarossi 28's, which will supposedly be WAY cheaper than normal...)

Looks like they extended the TVP's a good bit behind the engines.. New tires look cool too... Supposedly new diffs too... Oh yeah - and a 3-speed... [X(]

are these xl gonna be on market soon?

HerrSavage -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 3:45:47 PM)

I would guess so.. They also unveiled the X at the Nürnberg toy show, and it was avaliable pretty soon afterwards...

There's so much new stuff coming out it's crazy...

SpikeX -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 5:14:23 PM)

That's great news Patrick!

Was that gunmetal-headed engine in the XL the new K5.9?

HerrSavage -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 5:16:19 PM)

Yep.. This think would look wicked I think lowered and widened a bit.. With a black MGT-size CP2.0 bod on it.. I like the tires too..

ravenlunatic -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 5:28:55 PM)

wow... about time HPI makes a true 1/8th savy. it sure is big but i'm hoping that they'll use diff. tires. those are kinda ugly.

KILL--ROY -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 5:55:22 PM)

MiamizFinest -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 6:09:42 PM)

Man i like those TVPS i got a FLM ones and the carbon fiber ones but im useing the carbon fiber ones due tot he serouse weight issue with the FLM ones but i really like the extended savage i see my self geting those hpi TVPs

Dale Gribble -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 6:30:06 PM)

In my opinion, they should have figured out how to get that fuel tank in between the TVPs, either up front or in that new area behind the engine. Seems like they could have done it with that extra real estate. Truck keeps getting bigger with more power and they keep that same crappy tank design and setup.

-SomeGuy- -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 6:34:42 PM)

Im really liking the new tires. They look like they will have all the grab that the bonz have but with more weight allowing you to get those backflips. Another thing im wondering is apart from the rear center dogbone and TVPs, is there anything else that is different that wouldnt be compatible with other models? Maybe the engine plate is longer or something like that...

xXxCellARatOr -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 6:42:13 PM)

That is SOOO ugly. They have completely changed the body, and it looks HORRIBLE compared to any of the older bodies, including the GT2 body and the GT1. And those wheels are also completely different from anything ever before. They are just plain ugly. And the extension in the rear on the truck is stupid too. It looks like they just forgot to install someting in that area. What a P.O.S. Thats all i can say.

mmduc -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 7:37:27 PM)

i take it you wont be buyinh one.[:)]

xXxCellARatOr -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 7:44:15 PM)

haha im not so sure about that [:D] we'll have to see exactly all the details when it gets released. But so far it doesnt look too good to me. I mean, they wanted to make it longer so they just extended the chassis in the rear. Thats like the cheapest and most basic re-engineering ive ever seen. I mean, you dont need HPI to come up with that. A child could have thought of it. And it just doesnt look good. And i dont like the other editions that can be seen in that pic either. With the exception of the engine. The engine looks great. But the body and the wheels are horrid as well.

go-to -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 7:45:16 PM)

I'll just get extended TVP's, rims/tires, and save myself several hundred dollars. Simple...

This is superbly annoying because it's not enough of a change to justify me spending another $500.

This is a perfect example of what happens with a product over its' life cycle. Typically people fall in love with a product and over it's life cycle things change dramatically *away* from what made it so popular in the first place. This is a great example of the opposite where the product has changed very little over the course of its' life. It seems like HPI is really trying to stick to the design people first fell in love with and make simple little changes over time. The problem with this is that people are always looking for something new.

The Savage by nature has gotten long in the tooth as it were...if HPI is gonna keep up with other makers they need to do something better than this. This just doesn't entice me...it looks to be just a longer version of what I already have (2) of.

Weight issue? What do you mean?

HerrSavage -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 8:12:16 PM)

It is kind of weird that they left all that space behing the engine.. While the "it was jus the cheapest way to make it bigger" explanation is the most realistic, it's kind of neat to imagine HPI has a gas-powered conversion kit up their sleeve.. Yeah, fat chance..

I like the tires...

I kind of like it I think.. Though yes, I do think HPI is guilty of being REactive(cough cough MGT Sledgehammer...) instead of PROactive and doing something really fundamentally interesting..

madmouse -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 8:26:25 PM)

i think the truck will be a great rtr, look how many of us put on lcg tvps that r ext in the rear ( i am one of them )
the extra space behind the motor really comes in handy + u can get to the motor screws way easyer with a rear ext.

that will be the savay i buy if i buy a new 1

rcnitrohead -> RE: New Savage "XL" K5.9 Pics... (2/7/2008 9:03:38 PM)

Nice work Pat... IMO the new Savage is a dissapointment.. The tire compound and engine look interesting, however the new body/chassis look like @$$[&o]
