How can you not need a rise in the header? Otherwise, the fuel tank must be unacceptably lower.

Addendum: Unless you are running the engine sidewinder with the cylinder sticking out the opposite side of normal. That buys you effective right thrust the easy way.

Ed Cregger

Ed,
Yes the tank will be lower than the usual tank centerline/carb inlet level. Unacceptably lower? I don't know as I've not run it yet. However on this plane the tank and engine are in the same relationship as before and my this plane has had two other engines on and it's never been an issue. The engine is mounted traditionally and I did modify the top of the fuse to clear the pipe. I'm betting xjet's trainer he mounted this engine on wasn't optimum either in respect to tank level and as the video shows it seemed to run fine. Time will tell. I'm getting closer.

Whenever someone says "tuned pipe", my mind automatically drops into the pattern mode, which demands even fuel feed in every position. I sometimes forget that some folks don't really care if the engine goes slightly rich when inverted.

I really need a pipe and header for this engine.
Who has one that fits?

Thanks

If anyone gets really stuck I'm planning on making a few headers and pipes for those who might want one.

I have a couple pipes, but no header. I want to run this engine on something other than the V-Pipe I have. I looked around in my shop and garage for 'anything' in 3/4" diameter and found nothing. So I have ordered a small length of 3/4" aluminum tube and will be making a header shortly.

I have a regular tuned pipe, as well as a muffled tuned pipe. How much difference would there potentially be in power and rpm between the two?

With a normal size prop for that engine (11x7 to 11x8), you might see two or three hundred rpm difference. However, if you drop down to a 10x8 or so, the unmuffled pipe should add a hundred or two more to what you had with the unmuffled pipe and larger prop.

I've seen some engines respond really well/poorly to different pipes, while using the same prop/fuel/glow plug/header. The difference can be substantial.

XJet, will the header bolt on in place of the O-ring adapter or fit into the adapter? I am interested in two headers and two quiet pipes if that is what you are making.

I might be interested in an angled header if you're making them. Here's my engine mounted on my skyraider. Don't fall in love with it cause I know she's a real beauty!

Now I just need to find a day to break it then fly it. Any input on header length for the pipe I have is welcome. A club member who no longer flies two strokes gave it to me and only knew that it came off his OS61fx.

Yeah, I found it hard to keep the header seated in the stock manifold so I've made one up with a stub-pipe on it.

If you guys can give me an idea of what angle you want I can make some to suit with (say) 2" of 19mm aluminum tubing welded in position. These would bold straight on in place of the stock adapter and allow you to slip the silicone straight on.

Can someone give the acutal spacing across the bolt holes in the pipe adapter, center to center. MM or inch doesn't matter.
Thanks in advance.

I got my 3/4" OD aluminum tube today. It fits inside the exhaust header and makes contact with the 0-ring but it is definitely not a snug fit. I suppose I should have looked for metric sized pipe.

Anyway, I would like to thicken it up slightly. Do you think some teflon tape wrapped around it would work?

What I did with mine originally was to cut a thin ring of silicone tubing and use that instead of the O-ring they provide.

Made for a much snugger fit.

Well, I was hoping for a drop header like Mac's do, where there is a bend and then the pipe is parallel to the exhaust outlet. I haven't thought of an angle to use...

Maybe I could bend an intermediate piece of tube to get my radius and set the pipe parallel. Let's see what others would like and I will see if I can work with it.
