I have a Dynamite Tazer 12t ESC in my Exceed Dynamite truck. I recently did a motor swap to a 12t motor. The truck runs great for a few minutes then it starts cutting out. I checked the motor temp and it wasn't that hot, BUT the ESC was really getting hot. My question is: Do you have to reprogram the ESC for each motor you put in it? I haven't programmed it since I put it in with the stock motor. If programming it doesn't matter than what other factors would attribute to ESC overheating(which I think is what is happening). Thanks

Hey!!!

If you keep on driving it, you're going to burn out the motor. I just burnt out my second 12T/13T motor with the Tazer 12T.

I'll write back in a sec... just wanted you to read this quickly.

I haven't driven but a few quick spurts to see if it even worked. It's on my shelf again til I can troubleshoot the ESC overheating.

It is capable of a 12T turn motor, but isn't there different types??? I'm not too sure but I think there ones like 12t or 12d (double wind). I burnt out a retro series 12t and a venon fireball 13d motor yesterday. I have the 17d in now and it's great. I think it has the most power off the line... that's why asked in the other thread. I wouldn't use a 12 or a 13 on the tazer if you have the option. Anyone else?

my motor in question is a trinity speed gems 12t double modified motor. I tried to get different small gears but the hobby shop sold me the wrong pitch gears

Hay Just2 Stoned,
If you check with the Red Cat guys you will find the ESC should handle a 15 turn motor but no less.
I tried a 17t double wind in my 1/10th truggy and with a 5000mah batttery and compleatly fried the brushes and bell assy.
I went to a 19t single with the 5000 and again compleatly fried the 19t motor (both Trinity "Speed Gem Series" .
After talking to my local guru I found my gearing to be about 4:1. (16/64 = 4.00) He says I need to be closer to 5:1 to reduce the load and amp. draw on the motor.
After looking into it even with the lowest possible gearing (64/14 = 4.57) I am not able to gear the motor low enough.
What I ended up doing was go back to the stock motor and tried using Trinity's brush treetment and WOW! With the 5000mah batt. and the brush treetment my truggy is very fast!
Save your money, just try the brush treetment for $6.00 the $9.60 motor and the good batt. ($60.00)...it works and the run times are excellant!!!

Dusty

Hey DustyDoug!! Are you supposed to reach a 5:1 ratio with a brushless and brushed system... or just the brushless. I saw that you said you couldn't reach the ratio even at 64/14 which is really close, so you went to brushed. I agree with you. I have 64/17 gearing, 17d Venom Fireball with a 8.4 nimh battery. This thing cooks!

when I had the 7.2 V battery on with the same setup, I used to try this move in the underground parking. Where you drive backwards, turn quickly and drive off forward. Looks like that cop move in the movies. Now when I do it with the 8.4 in, it does a 1080 when I do the quick turn before it drives off... it's crazy. I think for sure it goes 30 mph with crazy torque.

When I say 64T for the standard gear, I am guessing. Is that what comes stock for the 1/10 Dynamite EP?? What does pitch mean???

Hay Tokenring, see my notes below...

Hey DustyDoug!! Are you supposed to reach a 5:1 ratio with a brushless and brushed system... or just the brushless.

I'm not sure about brushless and gearing, I'm still learning about the brushless systems. When I have it all figured out I will be going brushless.

Is your motor holding up? Mine melted the plastic bell compleatly on two different motors! Even with lower 16/64 gearing. Note, I am running monster truck tires on my truggie, same tires as your truck had stock.

Sounds like fun! The 8.4v's have a lot of punch!

Loooking in my manual the monster truck, your Dynamite, stock is 17/64. 64 tooth is the stock driven gear 17 is the one on the motor.

I'm not sure if that helps???

Pitch is the angle each gear is cut. It's the angle of the teeth and valleys looking at the gear from the side. Because of different pitch a gear of the same number of teeth can be different sizes. Got it?

Thanks for the help! Yeah, I have the original 64T main and the 17T for the pinion. I have a 18T pinion which I used once because it was sluggish off the line. The motor is holding up fine.... and actually doesn't get too hot at all. I have however burnt out a 13d retro series motor with the 12T tazer ESC and I burnt out my 13D venom fireball motor with the Traxxas XL-10 ESC. I guess 15D or 17D will be fine. I'll let you know. Thanks again for the help. Going to do the video now!!

I don't use the stock ESC, that fried on day 1 hour 1. I have the Dynamite Tazer T12 which is supposedly rated to handle anythign from 12 up(12,13,14,15,etc,..) I have a trinity speed gems 12t double modified motor in it now which is overheating the ESC with the stock gears. The smaller gears I did get were 48 pitch so I need to return them and get the right ones. Honestly electric RC's seem way to prone to failure for me. I do believe I will revert back to nitro instead of wasting the hundreds of dollars I predict I'll have to shell out later on. I'm going to put the stock motor back in and leave it at that. Unless someone can recommend me a motor to use with the stock gearing thats not gonna fry my ESC or the motor after 1 or 2 runs than I may stick with it but I'm kinda getting irritated that everything I try ends in failure. I used to have an RC10GT that literally never broke. I had replace maybe 10 bucks worth of little fasteners on that thing the entire 2 years I had it. (I hit a curb at full speed which broke the steering knuckle thing that connects the steering servo to the linkage. I used a small screw and nut to jimmy rig it for a few months before I replaced it with real part)

Interisting note Tokenring,
I fried my Trinity 17d and 19T using a Traxxas XL-10. From what I am seeing here it must have something to do with the XL-10.
You guys are not frying your low turn motors with other ESC's.

Anybody know why that would be the case?

I'm thinkng of going nitro as well, checking out the Batalian 1/8 th.

J2S, see my other note above, I went back to stock and use Trinity brush conditioner and the truck rips!!!!

Happy motoring,
Dusty

Just2stoned try the motors that I've used. I have in right now the Venom Fireball 17d modified motor. It is just fine with 64/17 gearing at 7.2v or 8.4v with the Tazer 12T ESC or t
