I have a 3 cell Venom 20C 5400 mah lipo that I want to charge at 2C, but the 989 will only do 1.2C. If I tell the charger the battery is 10000 mah, and charge the battery at 10 amps. Will the charger know when the battery pack is fully charged? How does the charger know when to stop charging even if the correct capacity is chosen? I thought the charger monitored the battery for a voltage spike and then it stopped charging?

I've thought about doing the same thing when I'm charging my A123 cells. I've just not tried it yet. I'm sure if you watch the battery and monitor the charge current with an actual volt meter you could see if it works or not. Give it a shot and let me know how it works out.

I would like to see what MRC says about this.

Yes, you can "trick" the charger by entering a higher capacity for the battery. However, I don't recommend doing this. Nowhere on Venoms site does it say you can charge one of their batteries at 2C. Does it say on the battery or somewhere on the instructions? The charger will shut off on voltage, just make sure you enter the correct number of cells. Again, I don't recommend charging a LiPo at 2C.

Thanks Tim. It doesn't say that you can charge the batteries at a 2C rate. Some lipos say you can charge them at a 2C rate, but it will reduce the number of cycles. What are the voltage cutoffs for the charger for a 2 and 3 cell pack?

The cutoff is 4.2 per cell.
