Hi Janch, great video, thanks for sharing it with all of us.

Tell me about your setup;
1) What prop are you using on the MVVS 58?
2) what exhaust system do you have in this plane?
3) who is the manufacture of this plane?
4) what position is your engine sitting, horizontal of inverted?

I'm assembling a composite.afr 2.3 with a MVVS 58 with a internal canister set-up.
I have been at it forever, not enough time, I need to get my act together and finish this plane, any input would be most welcome.

R, Mike

Mike,
I just finished a series of tests on my standard 58cc, using several canisters and the new MTW tuned pipe.
The tuned pipe I have now set up uses a 450mm long header, and runs best with a 24x10 prop at ~6350rpm. More power than your plane can probably handle.
Edit:
Images and prop data added.
For 450mm header length :
Mejzlik 22x10x3 6750 rpm
3W wood 24x8 6700 rpm
3W wood 24x10 6350 rpm
menz-S 24x12 6150 rpm

This is the prefered header length with stable running for all except the 24x12 prop, wich sagged when the pipe got hot (pipe tuned rpm shift off the prop power requirements)

Thanks Pe & Janch, I will take a look at your stats on the link.

My set up includes a Krumscheid 511 Custom setup for ARF-Composite Extra 2,3 m, for engine MVVS 58, Engine lies on it's side
The canisters I'm using is the 94 VS-4 R with the smoke pipe outlet
Have not selected a prop, but probably a Mejzlik ???

The 23x10 or 24x10 would be nice combined with the KS 94 muffler (see data above)

Pe, I have a Mejzlik 23 x 8 in the bottom draw. Is this an option? I would not like to drill it for the MVS 58, unless I'm confident that this will work.
The prop was acquired for the MVS 45 set-up on my H9 260. Is the prop pitch too small for this engine and set up?
I'm not a hot shot 3D flyer, I don't get enough air time to master the art...

That prop will turn between 7000 and 7500 rpm. The engine can handle that, but it will get noisy.

Thanks Pe, what about a 24 x 8, reason I ask, my LMS, has run out of 23 or 24 or 26 x 10 Mejzlik props, will it make that much of a difference, will the average model flyer really notice the difference? Alternately I will need to place an order on-line..

The problem with 8" pitch is, that the larger the prop, the less efficient it becomes. For low speed flight, the prop pitch should be nearer to 1/2 times the diameter, like 23x10 to 24x10 or 22x10x3.

Pe advised me to put a 22x10x3 on my 58 pro to keep things in check, due to ground clearance problems I could not go bigger in dia, this combination worked very well, keeps the revs in check and provides insane power on a 15.5lb plane, recommended, the good thing about this combination is that flying around on half throttle most of the time keeps the noise down considerably, this will prop hang at about 15% butterfly opening, would like to try and get it even less noisy, but have limited room inside the fus, at present the MTW 75K is up against the wing tube with a piece of silicon tubing wrapped around it to stop it burning through.

Pe, I have a pau 36% edge 540 and a mvvs 58 I would love to put that combo together. Do you think the 58 would be enough to fly it well including hovering and other 3d. If so what tuned pipe or canister and prop combo do you recommend? Any other options or advice welcome. thanx

A bit more information would be nice:
Wing span?
Weight?
Ground clearance for prop size?
Cannister ready? Internally? externally?

This would help Pe to give any advise and inform us of what is possible.

For all-out 3D you need 2 times the plane weight for thrust
For just being able to 3D you need 1.5 times the plane weight.

With the data provided above, you can check out your exhaust system and expected prop rpm
http://www.mvvs.nl/prop-power-calculator.xls
Using my prop calculator you then can estimate the thrust you can expect. This calculator is slightly pessimistic. Thrust will probably be a tad more than calculated.
