I've had my CX2 for almost 2 months now, I guess it's time to join a forum where I can talk about it and get info.

I keep thinking I spend too much time on forums, and the list of those I belong to gets longer every day.

Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

This is my first radio controlled flying anything, helicopter or otherwise. Given my uncanny ability to steer the race car my kid and I play with the wrong way when it's coming towards me, I figured any kind of aircraft would be beyond my ability to control.

Until I discovered that model helicopters, just like their human carrying counterparts can stop and back up while in flight. A demo of the CX2 (flown by the expert counterman at our local hobby store) convinced me: I have to get one of these things. This was around November, and since I always have a problem figuring out what I want for Christmas, this was a no brainer. I jotted the model info down on a piece of paper along with the salesman's name and gave it to my wife.

Took me a few tries before I could get beyond (that sneaky b@stard at the hobby store made it look easy!) hovering a couple of inches off the floor and dropping it suddenly. I'm now at the point where I can navigate around the house, and I'm even flying it up and down the stairs to the family room, which involves a 90 degree turn midway down. It tumbled down the stairs quite a few times before I got to that point, and I have a wastebasket full of broken rotor blades and chopped up body parts to show for my fun.

Welcome! I got my CX2 just after Christmas, and have been having a blast. So much so that I just picked up a T-rex 450 to start working on!

Welcome !

The body parts you can 'tape' back together. My cx-2 has more tape on it than the 'bling' I put on it (looks like a package that UPS taped up) . I also got mine for x-mas, but just don't have a reason to put the 'brand spanking new' cop body on it yet.

Get used to finding shrapnel of the blades in places you wouldn't expect. Every time I move something in the house I find a black plastic part, look at it, and then know where it came from

Hopefully those are HELICOPTER body parts!

I've been taping the front section together. It's still in pretty good shape.

The back half somehow got caught in the rotors. All I could find of the rear stabiliser was a few little peices of red plastic. Most of it just dissappeared. They only sell them in complete sets, so I have a spare front half, and the rear half is actually useable, but to restore balance, I had to wrap so much tape around the end where it broke off that it's really, really ugly.

I think I'd like to buy one of those aftermarket tail booms that eliminates the bodywork entirely. I like the way they look, and it would really ease maintenance accessibility.

I did that with the front section. The problem with the back was that I was only adding it to compensate for the weight of the vertical stabiliser. The boom itself wasn't damaged.
It took way more tape than I expected. Had to wrap it around a dozen times. I guess I should have just taped a couple of paper clips inside it or something. I'm just keeping it around for a spare now.

The great thing about these is that replacement parts (at least the ones I break all the time) are really cheap, and my local hobby shop usually has a good inventory.

They've sold a lot of these things, and every one of their customers seems to be buying parts often. Every time I'm down there, I meet a couple of guys who are there for the same reason.
The store owner told me that he sold 300 CX's or CX2's last year.

Welcome to the group. This is a good place to hang out. Lots of good people, good information, great entertainment but the snackage sux. Can't have it all I guess.
I was running a full CX body for a long time and eventually got pulled into the boom thing. I like the look of the full body better and my helicopter handled better outside with the full body. Inside, the heli seemed to cling to walls less with the boom. Aftermarket (boomtown) skids were a budget saver.
I did eventually get to the point where I traded my trash bin for a small basket to collect broken parts in, but then I do a lot of experimental weirdness. That can be good for the spirit but bad for plastic parts.

It's interesting that some of the primary fliers on here have, over the past year, gone from stock to blinged to fully modified only to get a second or third CX and then rediscover that the stock one is really a well designed little bird. There are parts sets out there that do work well. There are a few who will tell you that the upgrades increase the durability of the CX/CX2 many times over, but the performance increase is marginal. It all comes down to fun. If you don't mind going to the lhs for parts and dropping a few bucks - and calling it a social activity, you will have a ball with the CX2. If a couple of bucks a week bothers you, you're gonna have a problem. As far as the actual parts cost, if you join most any club the annual dues will be more than you will spend on stock replacement parts.

Of course you can get nuts and spend money if you like. I'm at the full Xtreme performance upgrade of the CX. I'm sure I'm over the $300 mark with it. It's visually very cool, but I don't really know that I like the flight characteristics better than the original - with the exception of the flybar. For me, I need to have a lighter flybar so I can have more fun with the heli.

Anyhow, Enjoy and welcome aboard!

You must've missed the snack tray on the way into this thread, soloboss. I grabbed the last ring ding though, hope that isn't what you were looking for.

The only upgrades I've done to my bird is the CNC swashplate and lower rotor head. Definitely made a difference in flight IMO and keeps me from snapping those little pins on the lower rotor head. I could only get an inner shaft with the plastic upper rotor head after my first crash and have been flying with that (still have the CNC upper that came with the bird).

Now whenever I crash I only take out a blade or 3 so repairs are quite inexpensive.

Welcome to the madness of RC Heli's, believe it or not, it actually gets worse the better you get. Next thing your going to want to do is upgrades, then bigger and bigger helicopters, fancy smancy tx's with gadgets galore. Oh god I'm getting all excited just thinking about it all.
You happened to pick a great forum to come to. The guys here are great and I'm still convinced that there isn't a problem on a heli this group can't fix!

Welcome aboard!
