With the advances in smaller gas engines we saw a void in the hobby market that has not yet been filled. In order to fill that void Aeroworks is introducing a new size of airplane to our product line, the 35cc Extra 260 is the first in our new series of aircraft. It is the same QB quality you have come to expect from Aeroworks in a smaller more affordable package. It is designed around the 35-45cc size gas engines or large glow engines and includes carbon wing and stab tubes along with the full QB hardware package.

The airplane is just the right size for those who do not have a large vehicle to transport the slightly larger 50cc planes. Best of all the planes fly incredibly well! The 260 fly’s much like its larger brothers and sisters and is just a shrunk down version of our 42% Extra that took second place at the Tuscan Shootout last year.

We are very excited to add this new plane to our hanger and hope many of you will add one to yours!

I noticed that this plane was posted on the AW website last night. Very nice looking 260. Wish I was in the market for a plane that size but I'm waiting for the .90-1.20 size a little later.

I'm not digging the scheme, but the plane itself looks great.

Way to go AW! I have been looking for an Extra 260 for my Evolution 35GT and was concidering the Hanger 9 27% but feared the weight on the nose would just be too much. Do you have any reports/video of this planes performance with an Evolution 35GT?

Not at this time. If sales for this size model are what we expect them to be. We plan on a full range of different aircraft in this size.

Thank You,
Chuck

I've got 3 of your planes in the basement... as soon as my EF Yak bites the dust, I may give the 35cc Extra a try. All of the planes have been a real pleasure to build and fly! Keep up the good work.

Do you think we could use a 50cc engine up here in Denver?

It's got good wing area for it's smaller size. 1200 squares.

I have a Fox 3.2 lying around and it needs a home. 15 pounds and a 50cc engine is just about right for decent punch from a hover, at this altitude.

The 80--85" planes just don't quite come in light enough for a 50cc engine. Gotta jump to a 60cc if you want to pull 17 pounds straight up from a hover. With the smaller 78" span and still 1200 squares, I think this plane could be awesome with a 50cc on the firewall.

Hi, i'd like to know if the Evolution 45cc GX2 would be a good choice for this model, and also is there enough room for it? If you have a better suggestion please let me know. Thank you.

The Evolution 45 would be a great match for this airplane. There is plenty of room to mount it and I'm sure the power would be very very good.

Mark,

What about the 40GX? It seems with the 50GX out, the 45GX2 is harder to come by. Would the 40GX pull the plane around with authority like the Brillelli 46?

I assume the 50GX a little much for this sized plane? I'm sure the vertical would be great, though.

I now have about 15 flights on my Extra 260 35cc. As I never got my 46GT after all the problems at Brillelli, I went for an FTL 52.
At $200 delivered and the same weight as the FTL 45, it seemed like an affordable option for my first gas IMAC project.
I have held back from posting until I got the CG, prop and carb mods and adjustments right.
I now have just over a gallon through the FTL and am getting 6,800 rpm on a Mejzlik 20x10, with more to come.
Quality and ease of assembly of the Aeroworks QB is first class.
For a total cost of around $1,200, with Hitec digital servos, I am more than happy.
Once I got the CG right (1/4" ahead of the recommended) the 260 flies well up to expectations.
More info and pics to follow.

Doesn't look like anyone has posted here for a while but I'm hoping to get it going again. I just finished mine and it's beautiful! I am pretty pissed that I bought it just days before AW put them all on sale for $150 less!

Couple questions: Right now I've got the CG at exactly 3.2" behind the leading edge on the wing tips (that's .2" back from the 3" recommended). I want to set the plane up for 3D, hence the slightly rearward CG. But I see Rodney has his 1/4" forward from the recommended. Was the recommended too wild or what? I see you set yours up for IMAC though??? Hmm... I definitely don't want to wreck it first flight cause it's too wild.

I got a DL-50 in her. At 6500', I need it for good punch out of a hover. Can't wait for that.

Any issues I need to be aware of before maiden?

I love how it dwarfs a couple other of my planes in this photo.

Yeah man that really sucks. I think they should send you a few freebies, though, because if it wasn't for your post, I wouldn't have ordered mine last night. I did not know they had them on sale!

I have a Brillelli 46GT that needs a home, so this should be a good fit. Now, I just need the rest of the internals... Won't be finishing this anytime soon...

What are you, or anyone else, using for radio/servo setups?

Just a heads up. The manual says to install the motor so the spinner back plate will be 6" away from the firewall (or something like that) - go 6.1" Mine is dead nuts on 6" and the spinner barely rubs the cowl. I just put a small spacer inbetween the spinner and motor to push it out a touch. Other than that, it went together great and I hope to have it in the air this weekend (pending Hitec sends me my remote back soon enough).

I have an AW 260... Here's my setup and the flight report. And yes, I needed spacers on the engine mount too, 6" wasn't enough so I pushed it forward another 1/8".

Setup with:
Brillelli 46GT w/Pitts turning a Xoar 22x8 Eagle Nose (hook tip prop)
Tru-turn 3.25"
4 5955TGs
1 7955TG on rudder
1 645MG throttle
1100nicd 4.8v ignition
2300 2cell A123
powerexpander pro w/pin-flag switch & optical kill (I know you dont need for this size plane - but older 5955s and running FASST)
14ch 2.4FASST receiver to a 10CAP Xmitter.

******************************************
260 Flight Report:

It's kinda funny but out of all the impressive things I had this plane doing on maiden the happiest I am is from the fact that I needed NO TRIM AT ALL!!!. Dead nuts straight and level. CG right on spec. OK here's the lowdown.

**Knife edge: Couples a bit to belly. couples a bit top wing to belly. +3% elevator to rudder: +2% aileron to rudder - SOLVED
**High Alpha Knife edge: On full rudder deflection knife edge I get a lot of coupling - but it's very predictable and linear. normally i use curve mixes for coupling to overcome the funky high alpha most planes seem to have. +7%: +4% covers it though. - SOLVED
**Upright Flatspins: Enter from a stall easy. Very flat with full rudder/elevator and 75% opposite aileron 20% throttle to keep nose up.
**Inverted Flatspins: Enter from a blender. LOL!!!! NUFF SAID.
**Waterfall: rudder correction needed to keep heading on the flop - very predictable, FAST and TIGHT.
**High Alpha upright: Normally I put some spoiler in for wing rock, this airframe needs none. 3rd flight I was HA on the deck.
**High Alpha Inverted: Same as above. WONDERFUL rudder turns, very little tip correction needed.
**Wall/Parachute/Elevator: Kind of all the same. no tips, nice mush on the wall (add a little spoiler to slide forward on the wall SO COOL)
**Snaps: Mine are conservative to prevent deep stalls. Fast and exits very predictably on same line as entry.
**Hover/Torque Roll: From a wall or HA. FUN FUN FUN.
**Landing: I am a flaperon guy. I use 30% aileron flaps from a slider on 10c. BTW, with either flaps or spoilers engaged no altitude change - stays level at 30%-50% throttle. I find it lands fast without flaps. With 15% its a puppy.

Two thumbs up!

Cheers,

Andrew

Ah man! That flight report makes me pretty excited to get mine out. This is my first gasser (and first plane I've spent over 500 on) so I've been double checking every little detail and miniscule thing twice. I also like flaps - actually spoilers, but I'll mix both in so I have an option for the first land - or just use nothing... I've got fast planes. Either way, I'm excited to get this thing in the air, my DL 50 is going to make it rip!

Did you use standard servos arms diviatix?

Go easy on the flaps, I'm used to it but it will slow it down an awful lot - be careful I need to for my short field.

Servo arms are SWB all round. 1.5" on ails, 1.25" on ele, 3" double on pull-pull.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Please excuse my ignorance but what does "SWB" mean? Or a link would be nice, I've got the stock plastic ones on now but only planned to have them on for maiden while I'm waiting for my order of "real" servo arms to show up.

www.swbmfg.com.

In my opinion (and many others) the best servo arms and multi-servo gang chassis in the business.

I've purchase many - never a fail, and great after purchase support. You won't ever be sorry.

Cheers,

Andrew.
