Status: offline 		SInce I have them I decided to install the plastic (RA 200) wing servo mounts. I used spruce to make rails to span the wing bay. My concern is that the plastic mount has a definite bow in it in the perpendicular direction to the mounting rails. (I will post a photo later). Now I am thinking to go back to the fabricated ply servo mounts!

Status: offline 		Frenchie, I'm taking your advice and will be mounting all the servos with basswood. Last night I finally made it back to the Hobby Store.

I bought an on/off switch with charge jack, servo mounting screws, 1 basswood rod, then my monokote. I picked up a roll of Cub Yellow, a roll of Royal Blue, and two sheets of jet white. The store didn't have the Royal blue Trim sheets and I didn't want to buy an entire roll and hardly use it.

Looks like I will be deviating a bit from the Piper Pawnee color scheme...the yellow will be my base color with either blue stripes or an entire blue belly. I will be working on the design at lunch today. I'm getting exciting for this part!

Status: offline 		It's great fun finishing the plane, I'm the same way-Just can't wait to finish. I built 4 kits and assembled 1 arf this winter so far plus changed out the engiine on my 4*40-Enough!!!
I put a 52 4 stroke in the 4*, here's a shot of the servo layout.

Status: offline 		Here are the photos of the wing servo mount installed in the wing. The slight bend in the mount (probably from the moulding process) came out when the mount was tightened to the spruce rails. What do you all think? Should I keep it or make plywood ones?

Thanks.... I am glad you read more A balsa cowl is VERY easy to make (especially if it is not removable) and is worth doing on any sport airplane that was designed with only "cheeks".

I don't know what it is, but I am really drawn to that Royal blue and Cub yellow that I chose.

Where did you get that attachement by the way? If you created it, how did you do it?

I would love to plan out my color scheme on the computer prior to starting the covering. I could draw out the plane in autocad but I don't know if it is worth the time to do so.

Status: offline 		Here is a scheme layout sheet I worked up in MS Paint. I actually used this template to plan my profile modifications before I started the build.

EDIT: I have fixed the issue with the attachment

My original file was a 256 Bitmap which RCU does not support, so I tried uploading a GIF version which did not show up or save correctly on the attachment. SO, I had to go with a JPEG which softens the colors making editing in MS paint dificult. The fix for this is:
Step 1- Save the Attachment
Step 2- Open the File with MS Paint
Step 3- "Save As" a 16 color Bitmap (.bmp)
Step 4- "Save As" a 256 color Bitmap (.bmp)

This will take the colors back to thier basic form and allow you to create a color scheme without the holes created by the JPEG format. If you prefer to hand draw your scheme forget all the converting and just print it as is.

I hope this makes sense... All because RCU cannot upload a bitmap file The original bitmap is a much larger and clearer layout. If you would like a copy of the original (reccomended) send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will be happy to get it to you.

I photocopied the back page of the manual twice then cut out one of the top images and used correction fluid to change it into a bottom view. then I glued them onto a page in the orientation indicated and scaned to bmp file. Load this file into MS Paint and you can manipulate the lines to create the cowl and cut down canopy (if you want to) and colour in as you want. Within MS Paint then "save as" a jpeg file and post. I know it was crude but it gives enough of an idea about your colour scheme before putting iron to film!!

Status: offline 		I almost forgot to post my new pics of the cowl today.... This is actually a complete do-over of the cowl earlier in the thread. It sounds outlandish but my dog actually destroyed the original. He chewed up the nose and ripped off the ply spinner plate. Anyway, a week later I have completed another and it is a little nicer IMO. I can remove the motor and mount easily as before, but the opening is a little tighter. Also a shot of my servo tray as well as the cockpit area.
