Full system pictures!

Notice only two spots to solder onto your ESC board (Main drive board)!!!

Looks good. I have learned that you can't just solder the ESC/RX cable to the DBC , the wires are just to frail. One needs to make the connection with sold strand wire.

For what it is worth, buying the kit assembled from Blitz is worth the money, IMHO.

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the plug, actually stranded wire is better for repeated stress on the wire, then say a single strand repeatedly bent or strained. But it should be 24 AWG or lower tined and not manufactured at the cheapest store the toy company could find

Blitz,
Does your system replicate and compete equally with the tamiya battle system. What are the differences? Have you got a TBS equipped tank or tried one?

Blitz, thanks for infrom about DBC . Would that work with tamiya gear box and turrent functions/ body recoil??? what sort of AMPS is giving out to 380 motors ? Sound card too?

tankmad,

It was designed by David or Darkith here on the Forum, and it is about a 90 percent replicant of TBS! It is actually a little more sensitive to hits ( But I have battled verses Tamiya and I just have to keep my head down more! ) One of the reason is becuase David uses 4 IR sensors and Tamiya uses 1 with mirrors! I did a field test ( Outside in direct sunlight) and the DBC / DBU out side took and recieved shots from 50 feet away Tamiya says they can go 60 feet, indoors or what not sure? The guys at Danville have approved this System for battle, that says a lot in my opinion, and of coures it still has to pass all of their other standard testing! One other difference is that David set his up so you can set the hit settings to be more flexiable then Tamiya's, and could expand the battle field in the future! First setting is SUPER LIGHT ,1 hit maybe a mobil cannon, grunt with a anti-tank rocket!?? LIGHT can be a tank or maybe half track that will take 3 hits, next setting for MEDIUM tanks, Panzer III, Shermans, 5 hits next setting HEAVY 9 hits! Reload times are the same times as amount of hits. Tamiya has 3/6 and 9 hit settings with the same corrisponding re-load times.

Sound is not the same, Tamiya is booming but Davids you can customize the sound you want and that is a cool feature! And I have an upgrade speaker that gives the HL more of a throaty sound! I will be showing some example of custom sounds and the new speaker in a video coming soon, hopefully I can get it done this Sunday!!!!

Oh and what did you mean by have a tried a TBS tank? Maybe I answered this above?

Johnmar78,

If you went to the Website you might be confusing the DBC / DBU with the EL MOD product? The DBC does give your heng long proportional drive, and you can remove the fake super spin, and the cannon rock, but it does not replace your main or ESC board, it is only and additive, and IR Battle system! And maybe this is Tankmads question also, I have not personally installed one into a Tamiya yet, I asked David about this and you can use the DBU with a Tamiya on certain models apparently they have the battle cabbling already, you just have to match the pin out! I believe that there are a few guys out here who have done it, this is something I need to do myself at some point and there would be no need for the sound if you have the Tam electronis inside, recoil unaffected!

Blitz,

Would this allow you to replace the HL 27 MHz transmitter and receiver? 27 MHz has only six channels therefore only six tanks on the battlefield at once. We routinely run 10 to 14 at once using Spektrum and 72 MHz.

Elmod - yes (can use 4-6ch regular receiver)

DBC / DBU - no (enhances HL stock setup)

Dugster,

Heng long is still a stepping stone you can't have a large all Heng Long battle, but if you do have a Heng Long, you or 6 others can now mix it up with the high end radios! I keep all of the crystals with me when going to a battle in case there are a few of us! There are seven frequencies available now, 4 Heng Long and 6 from Redhawk, only 3 of which are the same as Heng long so that give you an additional 3 = 7 ( still not good enough I know)! There are a few of us working on trying to convert the receiver board to translate to higher FM, not huge progress yet, but gathering the team to get it done! The thought for a while was that this would not be worth it, but I think with the quality of Heng Longs electronics improving and cooling ideas, I think it is worth it if we can do it for a reasonable price!

I've actually been toying with the idea of a new version which would allow the use of regular 75mhz or 2.4ghz radios. You'd remove the stock Heng Long receiver board, connect this new DBC to the Heng Long ESC, and connect a regular RC receiver to the DBC .
This would allow you to use more channels and more reliable frequencies while retaining the Heng Long ESC and sounds, plus have battling, and the option to use other servo channels for neato scale effects (e.g. pivoting bow guns, smoke grenades, remote light control, whatever).
Cheaper than a DMD/MF or Elmod refit, but still limited to the stock engine sounds and motor power limits (though I'm looking into the possibility of doing a FET mod for more power/repairs).

I'm just not sure how many people would be interested. It sounds like most "hardcore" tankers want to do a DMD/MF or Elmod mod anyways. And most "neophyte" tankers would probably be content to drive and battle only a few tanks on 27mhz, and are probably more reluctant to tear into their tanks.

So, what do you folks say? Would you buy a DBC battle circuit that used a regular (75mhz or 2.4ghz) RC radio system and the stock Heng Long ESC board? Probably only a little more expensive than a regular DBC , and possibly available assembled from rctankwars (at the assembled markup of course).

Cheers,
David

Darkith,

Count me in. I'm slowing switching to 2.4 Ghz, so all I'd have to do is drop in a receiver.
