Yes, just like that one, but water cooled. I think the early water cooled ones only came in .40 size but I am not 100% sure of that.

I have the same tunnel hull on here that have with the BudLight and Nordica Graphics. Unfortunately the engine has been replaced and I do not have the shroud that looks like a scale engine. I am wondering if you guys could help me with my radio setup...or if you have any of the instruction manuals that came with these pieces. A friend gave me this so I'm kinda lost with it a bit. THanks

I want to thank everyone for the info, suggestions and comments thus far. Is it alright to post my questions here? (about the AMPS drive setups I'm running) or should I post elsewhere to keep this thread "cleaner"?

I will check into the reverse ground cam for the YS-63S...as counter rotating would be the clear ticket. Which brings up one of my main questions.

~Running the 4-stroke what would be an appropriate sized prop to start with? (Now that I see others have run with 4-strokes....that was my big concern!) I'm looking for just a good performing boat.....not looking to set any speed records. I would prefer a 3 blade minimum.

~Would counter rotating drives have any changes on prop selection (other than the obvious opposite pitch angles)

~For the guys that have run the AMPS out drives....what oils / maintenance do you recommend?

Thanks again

The owners manual for my O.S. 61 says to use a 60 class deep vee prop. I would imagine a prop for a 60 size engine would be a good starting point for the ys engines. I am sure your four strokes will not be putting out as much power as a modern 2-stroke marine engine of the same size but it will be making all of it's power at a lower rpm so therefore you will need a good sized prop anyway. My os manual says to be careful about overreving , it states that even jumping waves and having the prop come out of the water could damage the engine.

As far a lubricant I have used a 50/50 mixture of 20/50 motor oil and stp oil treatment and had no problems. I have an original bottle of amps oil but I don't know what it really is. It seems to have about the same consistancy as 90 weight gear oil but it is very red in color. I have talked to people that raced amps drives and one guy reccomended using something called lubriplate. He described it as something between greese and oil in thickness. Lubriplate makes so many products I still don't know exacly what product he meant Just remember that Amps drives are only sealed by sealed ball bearing so the lubricant always slowly seeps out . So, the thicker the lubricant ,the better it stays in the drive but you still want to use something thin enough that it will flow all over the gears well.

Oh yeah, I do have all of the original manuals and templates that came with the oudrives and outboards but they are buried in a box at the bottom of the stack in the back of the closet. I guess I should dig them out and scan them. I do remember that they only stated that you should use AMPS oil so they won't help with the lubrication question. The manuals really don't contain much information other than don't strike something with the prop and be sure to keep it full of oil.

One thing about the outdrive, you are supposed to direct the stream of water from your engine cooling water outlet so it sprays on your plastic outdrive u-joint to lubricate it with water at all times.

Thanks for the input thus far. I also have a little "squeeze" bottle of the red AMPS out drive oil. I just didn't want to use it up....and never know what to replace it with!

I also have the original owners manual that you mention....I'll try and get that scanned also (it'll be a race to see who gets them scanned first)

Lastly that is a very good point about directing the water stream onto the plastic / nylon u-joint. I had also been advised from another source that was a problem area on these drives.

Yes, some of the last drives came with a steel flex cable instead of the plastic u-joint

Here is the AMPS / International Hobbies paper work I have.

~Cover Page
~Installation Instructions / Running In and Hints
~Exploded Parts Listing (with part numbers)
~"3-View" scale drawings and dimensions
~Mounting Template and Diagram / Water Line Routing
~AMPS Propeller Listing

Hope some of this may be useful.....or more so interesting.

Edit: I'm assuming RCU resizes the attachments? As I had several of the diagrams scanned larger? If anyone is interested in a larger scanning let me know.
