ORIGINAL: slayerphonics Nice shot Tigger, Thanks for sharing some photo taking skills, Do you use photoshop much after your shots? I use a little mine depends really. Astrophotography requires a mass amount of photoshop to get them to look right, When I first started shooting, I shot jpg. However, now I shoot RAW probably 99% of the time. As a result, I use CS2 with the RAW plug-in. Many times I "tweak" the photo with the RAW plug-in, then crop, and adjust the size image in photoshop. However, if I shot at high-ISOs, i.e. 1000+ though I usually end up at 1600+ with the D200, I end up using the Noise Ninja plug-in to help get rid of the grain--I purchased that program after I ended up shooting sports at ISO 1000+. Sometimes I also use curves, color balance, or the shadows/highlights sliders. Most of the time it just depends on what I am shooting and where I am shooting, i.e. indoors, low-level lighting, etc. Curves to set the whites and blacks; color balance when the indoor lighting varies and plays havouc with some sort of color cast, and the shadows/highlights to tone down some of the highlights. For those interested, Adobe has some sort of free program going on now... https://www.photoshop.com/express/landing.html quote:
ORIGINAL: nick2618 This seems to be the popular zoom lense being offered with the nikon d40 what do these numbers on the end acutally mean?? (i know what the 55-200mm is the measure of the zoom) AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED So with a litte research and the help of this pic i seem to get the f4-5 is the largest that one can open but what dose the 5.6g ED mean?? Also know that the larger the app opening the faster the shutter will go to give clear pics with fast moving objects in low light. And thats why your F/2.8 is really good. * * * * * And one other thing anyone have anythign bad to say about those ebay deals. I have kinda heard one thign from somewhere saying Nikon only will honor a warranty that was bought from a registarted Nikon dealer. Regarding the aperature of the 4.5-5.6, that basically means that at 55mm, that lens can shoot at an F/4.5 aperature. However, when at 200mm, it can only shoot at F/5.6 and when somewhere between 70mm and 200mm, the lens is shooting somewhere between F/4.5 and F/5.6 at its maximum. If you compare that to the 70-200mm F/2.8 VR, the 70-200mm F/2.8 VR can shoot at F/2.8 whether the focal length is set at 70mm or at 200mm or anywhere in between 70mm and 200mm. In short, there is a large difference between F/2.8 at 200mm and F/5.6 at 200mm--if there is little light, the F/5.6 probably won't even lock focus though it should be fine on a bright day (I've taken golf photos with the D50 and the Sigma lens with such F/stop ratings). Hence, the reason I upgraded lenses as soon as possible and another reason that lens is expensive. Regarding the Nikon warranty comment, yes I have heard that as well. Also, if you order from some place like B&H, they list "USA" items and "gray" items. It's also my understanding that NikonUSA won't warranty the "gray" items which are usually sold at a slightly lower price than the "USA" items. Personally, I would be very leary from purchasing a camera on ebay since I would rather check it out in person. Locally, if I want to purchase used camera equipment, I can visit a few independent camera stores, the camera clubs, or even the pawn shops. Also, I wouldn't purchase a third-party lens (non-Nikon/Canon) online as well since it is my understanding that the quality control may not be consistant.
