I have two OS 40 LA engines that I would like to build a twin engine fun airplane (scale outline posible) with and wondering if anyone has any experience with a plane like that. Logair

The only thing that comes to mind is the Great Planes P-38 Lightning Profile Kit:

It's actually designed around dual .15 2-strokes. I haven't seen anything else out there like this that is commonly available.

Back in 1991 I built a twin for two OS Max 40FP's, the forrunners of the LA. I kit bashed a Johnny Cashburn Super Something into a Continental airlines Beech Liner. I flew the plane for 11 years and then sold it. I believe it still flys today. But, I will never put those engines on another twin !!!!!!! I literally had over 100 engine outs in that period. Some were non-events. Some were near heart attacks.
They will work, if your mind is made up. But you will be an expert at flying on one engine.

But to answer your question: You can find a kit or an ARC that is designed for a 90, then there is your wing. You can easily scratch the fuselage and then plant the original tail on it. Thats what I did.

If you are a builder, I would suggest getting the Tower profile Mustang and converting it to a twin fuselage Twin Mustang. You would have to duplicate the fuselage and make a straight wing section for the center and a new stab, but this isn't very hard. I think the OS .40LAs will pull it very nicely. Just don't run them too lean.

If you are serious about twins, drop me an e-mail. My flying buddy, Flaps Laffert, and I have built 24 twins. I can give you a list of twin dos and don'ts that I published in my column.

My buddy threw this together using SPAD stuff. It flew very nice with two FPs. Not very pretty but it flew nice.

Don't know about profile, but I flew these engines on a Hobbico TwinStar and it was great...I had guys standing in line to fly it.

One of the newer design fun fly profiles would be a good match.

A Paul Swany plane like the taco or mojo would be a good candidate. You would have to buy 2 kits and modify them but they are such easy builds I dont think it would be that much of a challenge.

I am building a Fusion right now and I think a twin fusion would be fun too. It has a bit longer of a tail so might be better for a twin.

I would definitely build something with one of the newer designed profile fuses that uses carbon fiber.
