I will try to take some pictures how to disassemble VPX pack and make 3s for A10.

Looking forward to seeing some photos of how you made those batteries.

Thanks

I bought another pack - still in the plastic wrap. I will try to make documentation - just so many ideas, so little time.

You're going to have to write a book about this yet! Celebrity status ;^)

Hey, got any favorite online shop that's got real cheap prices for 10g to 16g micro servos?

ESC question for you, I'm still learning this stuff - I'm using a 400T outrunner brushless on a Bipe project (11.1v 1800 LiPO), and I've got a 30a ESC extra I'd like to use. The 400T is technically supposed to use a 25a, do you think the 30a is a problem using instead of the 25a?

Thanks

Rysium,

Yes you are a celebrity. I purchased my Guanli A-10 about 2 weeks ago and, it arrived in less than a week, very nice. I put it together according to the poorly written instructions and it looks so cool. I have no RC flying experience except for the time spent on FMS while waiting for the plane to arrive. I took the A-10 out to a local ballfield and was able to get airborne in about 50 ft with a pretty decent headwind. I had not conditioned the battery so the flight only last about 2 mins and I brought it in for a pretty hard nose and left wheel landing(almost stuck it) no damage except bending the nose gear wire and popping out the left gear mount(same as you).

Overall I'm pleased with my first solo/maiden flight of a real RC plane and I love my A-10, I was very nervous as you could imagine but it was way easier to fly than I expected after reading so many post stating that this is a tough plane to fly for a beginner. I already repaired the gear, and can't wait for the next flight. I plan on doing the motor upgrade at some point but for now I'm going to do the steering mod and get the Black and Decker batteries, do you think they are safe for the stock electronics? I'm far from doing any kind of aerobatics. I'm just doing turns, touch and goes and landings for awhile until I'm completely comfortable with them.

Thank you so much for all of this info. I've learned more from this particular thread than from any person that I've asked for advise in person.

I don't know about the rest of you, and even though the plane looks good, I'm kind of a stickler for detail in a model. So I farted around with photoshop and some pics of actual A-10s I have, and enlarged them to the scale of the model, them took some of the outboard details like, the antennas on the upper and lower fuselage. I then took some thin white plastic and blueboard foam and fabbed some of them to add to the plane, I'm also going to make the ( I think it's the FLIR Pod on starboard side ) and the GAU-8 nose gun.

Im very happy to hear that you were able to fly it with no problem. I like so many others out there and your self included have purchased this bird with no previous aircraft experience. Now, I relize there are some people that might not adapt to it as quickly as you have, but in my case Ive been flying heli's for a while now and just dont want to waist money on a trainer AC that i would quickly become board of. I purchased this AC becase the flight caracteristics of the Real plane(with its large serface area) means Its a good flyer at slow speeds. That to me says its a good trainer. I would like other newbies to post some of your success or failers with this AC. I will do the same when I recieve it.

happy flying

I removed the impellers today using the method previously described. If you can't find the screw part of the "puller" needed, the long screws used to to hold most standard servo cases together work perfectly. The original brush motors didn't want to come out at first. So you might want to use the wires to help pull the motors out before cutting them. I braced the back of the nacelle flat against my inner thigh and pulled on both of the wires and at the same time pushed on the shaft adapter with a slight sideways wiggle. Worked for me! I suppose I could have used a lubicant, but the grunt method worked out. Waiting for brushless motors to arrive this week.

Did you have the same problem as I had removing the impeller adapter from the motor's shaft? If so, you need another adapter (that fits your BL motor shaft). GWS part works for 2mm shafts but make sure you order GWS impellers at the same time. Guanli impellers were to loose on the GWS adapter. And GWS impellers are balenced better.

I didn't even try to remove the original adapters. Do you think they are mounted on the shaft with left-hand threads? Not much shaft to grab in trying to remove. Just for curiosity's sake, might try to turn down enough adapter to see what they did to get them so tight.
An old trick is to freeze the shaft with a propellant and heat the adapter to remove a pressed on item as I have done to remove pressed on bearings. Later. Work on the A10 first.

P.S. Yes, I ordered adapters with the other items.

So RysiuM With regards to the A123 batt. is it just a matter of cutting off the White wire and the thin black wire, and then soildering the 3 cells in series. Then add another longer black wire and add a Deans connector.

What is the total capacity and voltage of the New battery. I would like to know what to enter into my charger for obvious reasons.

Thanks a ton!

Richard,

Did you compute or measure the actual "C" discharge rate of the new VX based Li-ON battery packs you built, also the mAh and what is the actual voltage??

I'm still thinking I may do this all with Li-PO batteries instead. I found two companies in Hong Kong that I've already bought some Li-POs for my Heli's and the Ultimate BiPe that I'm building, and their prices are so good (especially compared to the rip-off prices the Hobby Stores (online too) charge), it may be cheaper than the VX route. I haven't torn mine open yet so I can return them.

Thanks
