Documentation update:

I believe that the pdf part drawings are ready for use now. You will notice that there are part drawings for the left wing but not the right wing. When making a wing part, make 2 of them and you will have one for both wing halves. I am not sure that there is any added value to creating another set of part drawings for the right wing. I suggest that you get a rubber stamp kit so you can stamp the part name on each part. It worked well for me.

The photos and drawings have been cleaned up. There were some extra 'garbage' files in there. I will upload any new images as I come across them. There are a few in this build thread that I should put there for reference.

This weekend I will cleanup the virtual reality files and provide a single up to date readme file. Then I think it's time to get back to building for a while.

I haven't heard back yet if the CAD files will be available in DXF format. The volunteer RCer had an idea that might still make this possible. I will post the outcome here.

The single sheet (or two) of part drawings will be available after I hear back about the DXF CAD files.

I suppose it will also be helpful to provide a zip file for downloading all of the part drawings. I will get to that this weekend.

So for now, go to http://b36.flugmodel.net/Updating_here/ to download the B-36 documentation.

Just an FYI Mike if memory serves me correctly I have seen and ARF with twin jet pods and one thing the manufacture did was put a duct fan unit only on one side and the twin was a dummy allowing air to flow through. I don't remember what the airplane was or who made it, if I find it again I will let you know. The reason I bring it up this technique cuts the number of ESCs, motors, batteries, and wiring needed and it wasn't obvious when you looked at the airplane. Painting the inside of the dummy black makes excellent camouflage. I will do some research and see if I can find the airplane again if somone reading this does already know and can tell us.

Mike,

I would be interested to see the info if you locate it.

I must admit that the post from boomerang1 has rather convinced me not to add the jet pods. I am not all that worried about the drag in the air, but I am concerned as Boomerang1 commented, drag on the ground. The wing on the B-36 is VERY wide so hanging jet pods far out on the wing would mean that perfect landings and take-offs would be needed.

I would still like to see the info if you locate it.

Thanks,

The documentation is up-to-date for the moment and so I will be getting back to building some time this weekend.

On my documentation to do list:
- The wing rib drawings need to be improved or re-done.
- Create a large sheet drawing or two that contains all of the part files
- Create zip files for easier downloading
- Update the files to include the changed wing mount method
- Bring the build doc file up-to-date

So there are still documentation tasks to do, but it is a lot better than it was.

Get the most recent documentation at http://b36.flugmodel.net/Updating_here/

Mike I have been looking for the airplane I was speaking of when a thought occurred to me that could really throw a monkey wrench into this idea. To be proper scale how small would the ducted fan unit have to be? It may just be the size you need may not be available. I was looking at an ARF of a 4 engine jet (not the one I was thinking of) mady by back to basics I think. They had the two inside nacelles ducted fan and the out two were dummies when i realised how big the fans looked. I then saw a model of a B-52 made back in 2005 but the nacelles were way oversized. This leads me to think if you did make the pods they would need to be dummies. I'm glad zip files are on your to do list they would make the download managable.

James B-36 is 1/12 scale and the jet pods will only hold a 3" fan or turbine. Your's would be 1 1/2" in dia.

If GWS still makes the EDF30 it might fit, the empeller was 30 mm so that would but it in the general size you would be looking for.

I have created a dated zip file that contains all of the current files at http://b36.flugmodel.net/Updating_here

I will place a zip file with a new date when further updates are completed.

The zip file is 85MB so I apologize to those who have to download via a dial up connection.

I just downloaded the zip file and I haven't had a chance took at it very close. What is the name and type of file on the parts sheet I may want to visit Kinko's later on in the week.

Mike,

I haven't yet put all of the parts on one sheet.

What I have done is...

- deleted all of the duplicate part files
- deleted the postscript part files
- deleted part files for parts that are no longer used, such as the wing mount center section parts
- renamed the fuse former part names to match the part
- moved a few of the part files to be in the proper subdirectory
- deleted outdated virtual reality files
- created a zip file so that all files can be downloaded with a single mouse click

The single sheet or two for part files will take a few hours to complete. I will get to it soon. Right now I am updating the build doc file, which will take a few hours as well.

I didn't know that you were that ready to go. I will make sure that I don't delay too long.

I would really like to hear how plotting at Kinko's works out. I am not sure what services they may have to help you get the parts plotted exactly to size.

Mike

Sorry Mike! I must have misunderstood a previous post. No hurry! I was just thinking about it. i don't want to cut into your building time! When the time comes I plan on checking with office depot, they have moved into the large copying business at a very competative price so I thought I would see if they can print from a file.

It's one of those days when I work a little here and a little there, as well as getting some chores done around the house.

I have made some progress on the build doc files. I say files because I have decided to break it up in to a few sections. I will get them posted when they are up to date.

I also took some time to position the motors on the wing. If you recall, my original plans were to use geared brushed motors. Now that I have switched over to brushless motors I need to rework the motor mounts and that means there could be changes to the way I build the trailing edge of the wing.

Here are the numbers that I have for positioning the motors.

These numbers make sense if you know that the distance from the root rib to the tip rib is 54" which does not include the wing tip.

Motor (shaft) positioning dimensions:

Inches from Inches from
Root Rib Tip Rib

Root Rib 0.000 54.000
Inboard Motor 12.121 41.879
Mid Motor 21.736 32.264
Outboard Motor 31.385 22.615
Tip Rib 54.000 0.000

Here are a couple of photos of the motors in their approximate locations.

The spaces were taken out of my previous post so the numbers don't line up well.

Here is how it should look.
