Hi new to the drag racing side of rc have a rj speed prostock chassis I know not the greatest but hey its a start any how was thinking of running a novak gtb w/ 5.5 and a 3 cell lipo what should I expect ie; driveability, handling, traction(what traction compound),durability and so forth any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance

probably you can expect the novak esc to fry i think they max at 2s.

if your gonna go novak for 11/1v+ and drag you should look at the HV's. Please make sure if you are going to run a 3s that your ESC is capable of handling it (and the motor turns).

drop the novak and go with the mamba esc. It is more dragster friendly.

Snell knows what he's saying... I'd listen to him. He knows his electrics better than most. Not that you have to be a genius to recommend Mamba but, just generally speaking.

Snell, whats the best your rusty ran in the 1/10th 1/4?

The best...I dunno man. When I tried to get an "official" speed reading in San Antonio dragstrip I could only run half power, which ended up in 50mph. I had the wrong tires for that track, which made me do a backflip at startup. My tires were to wide...Next time I will be more prepared.

with the 6s you can't be running foamies either, right? Rip right off the rim. I don't know how to make those trucks like yours under extreme power loads to hook up. Foamies would seem to be the right choice since they won't balloon but, the revlutions will force them right off the rim at that size.. I wish there was a real drag radial that was on a beaded rim and some sort of mix of tire inserts and/or air with a nice thick compound (atleast for powered trucks with oversized rim and tire with alot of space between the inside tire and rim).

I am working on another idea for foamies to work on the rustler. I'm hoping in a month or so I'll have it working. The rustler can take off like a missile...just if the tires don't blow halftrack through.

Nice car man. I spy the venom speedometer. What's the wheelbase on that thing? I added 4 caps to the Mamba ESC, which helps keeps its cool during braking.

Thanks man, I just added the Ven Speed Meter a few months ago (trash-rig mounted haha) for test running high speeds with each mod. The car now has an MGM ESC for voltage and a replacement for the Duo 3.5 (bad choice). Funny you ask about the wheel base... I am picking up the car tomorrow from my pal who specialize with these cars and just modded the wheel base (in this picture its stock).

Smart with the capacitors... How are running such high voltage with a M.M.? I've never seen a Mamba that could handle more than 4S's max. I've been looking and thats why I ordered the MGM for cool running and high voltage. I can still remember when Tekin made an ESC that could handle 20 cells (G-20) for cars. Ahhh, the good 'ol days. I still own one (fried) from a stupid 16 cell/ 6turn D3 attempt in 1999.... 10 feet, a huge donut, and poof... DONE! I've killed more speed controls with my trial and error runs, it's an expensive way to learn hahahaha.

Whats your top-speed with the Rusty, or your top speed in general with any of your cars? It a fine balance of knowing your electronics and setting the cars up. I just wish the tire technology was available now for high-speeds in r/c. Blowing out foamies is an expensive habit.

Yes it would be lighter and in theory faster. But I'm building a retro vehicle...Old school car with new school electronics. If I compete in IMDRA, I would only fit in bracket racing anyways. I seriously dought I can break the 100mph barrier to be in the extreme class.

Justin, the mamba can handle the 20volts ...well the voltage drops below that under load. But you have to keep the amp draw low enough, not overheat the esc. Second, you have to disable the voltage cutoff and the mamba will run. So far the I am only able to run 6s A123 with the Hacker 3750KV motor. Anything higher and it shuts down midway track. 5S A123 for 4436KV.
Calculated speed would be 70MPH in the 132 feet. And in a ideal world it would hit something around 90mph. I'm interested in your wheelbase as it would be interesting to dragrace a vehicle with your suspension setup.

This is another project I am going to start (for fun). This old Bolink Econo-rail electric dragster. I will swap out the rear-end for a 10L and fabricate the same chassis ad wheelbase with a cut of aluminum (too much flex on the stock chassis) with a tri shock design in the rear. Also swapping out the front for larger lightweight drg wheels up front. Set up for 14.4v and brushless (of course).

I will get the you the wheel base asap. It is stock in the pic and I completely forgot the stock wheelbase for an L3 touring.
