Is it possible to use wood props on the 2:1 geared RCV engines? I want to be able to use near-scale props on WWI types, but unless they are wood it will defeat the purpose. I heard the SPs need the mass of a composite prop, but wanted to make sure.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Hello,

I used the APC prop recommended by RCV for the first 2 hours. Thereafter switched to a much lighter scale-like carbon prop. Works fine.

Andi

Hi Jim

We always use and recommend glass composite propellers, however wooden propellers can be used if necessary and have been used in some RCV testing. It is important however to use good quality/heavier wooden propellers because generally wooden ones are too light and do not produce the flywheel effect. A point to note is that RPM figures will be lower when using wooden propellers.

Best regards

Stephanie

Thanks for the responses. I would use hard maple, not beech or any of the other lighter woods. Jim
