Hi guys,

Need help in choosing a chassis for this 18R. Its all bone stock. I can't decide to either go with alluminum or CF. Pros and cons? I intend to race the car in an oval class at our LHS. The car belonged to my buddy and was nolonger into playing with any RC stuff. He decided to sell it to me for $25 so he can pick up some flowers for his girl. I had some parts hanging around and dded the mirrors and pipe. preciate the help...

If you are going to race go with the Carbon Fiber chassis.

That is the 3R chassis and is basically just a graphite version of the stock 18 series chassis with the front end kickup. The Exotek R18 chassis is flat in front allowing a better front arm angle for onroad driving.

The thing that makes the 18 series of cars so tough is the fact that the stock chassis and suspension has a ton of flex allowing the car to bend and twist in a wreck rather than breaking. If you stiffen up the chassis with graphite then you are transferring those forces to the next weakest link in the car (probably the suspension), and since graphite doesn't flex and is more brittle than the soft plastic chassis it is more likely to break in a really hard wreck.
I guess what I'm saying is....if your a decent driver then a stiffer chassis really provides better handling in a race situation. The graphite chassis hold up much better than plastic or aluminum, but I wouldn't recommend it for a "Basher" car, keep that plastic, less breakage and lower maintenance cost.

If you are that serious a racer then don't settle for anything less than the Exotek chassis

^^+1. Also I know people haveing problems getting replacement parts for that chassis. The Exotek is made in America from a small business. I messed up a swivel link while building, I sent him an email and he had the new part in my mailbox 2 days later...for free and it was my screw up and told him that. You can't put a price on service.

No problem......R/C is like real life, you get what you pay for, if it's the best then it cost the most, but thats because it's the best!
