I wanted to invite everyone to our upcoming WW1 event in Cincinnati OH....i.e. "The Ohio Dawn Patrol".

ODP
July 19th and 20th. Cincinnati Aeromodelers field.

Much of the leadership that puts on the Dayton Dawn Patrol is helping to make this event as big as possible.

The event is open to all that want to join us, just have a plane from 1922 or earlier. Size doesn't matter. It is really cheap, $10 for preregistered pilots and free camping for the two days.

There will be great raffle prizes and fun evening activities...i.e huge bon fire, movies played on the side of the hanger.

If you are a WW1 guy or a Golden Age scale guy, you don't want to miss this event!

see the website at: http://geocities.com/sukhoi7777/page1

Let me know if you have any suggestions to make this event more fun.

Don't forget the huge WW1 event held every year in September at Rheinbeck NY as well. It was a good time with over 100 WW1 RC planes (and a few not so WW1 from Nick Ziroli). You get to fly off of the same field as the real WW1 birds.

Dear All
As an aside, the eleventh of November 2008, will mark the 90th anniversary of the end of World War one.
We are hoping to hold a WW1 only event later on in the year, here at Coltishall, Norfolk UK.

Good luck with your event, please post plenty of pictures.

Regards Phil G.

I'm totally in on a WWI meet...I've sold off all my old planes, but would love to go and just watch.

Hi Joe.

Count me in. Got a 1/4 D-7 looking for a WW1 event, and one pops in my back yard!

Mike you won't be disappointed. We are taking out all the stops. This will be close for you. I have a strong commitment from much of the Indiana guys. They have a strong following.

Noflaps, you have plenty of time to put something together. That's why we are marketing it so early. You don't need a 1/3 scale. A fellow member just put together the H9 Sopwith Camel ARF...that works.

I went to a scale rally once where prizes were awarded for being dressed as closely as possible to how the full scale pilot of your model was dressed. It was a real hoot. Of course a leather coat and fur collar aren't a lot of fun in August! But it sure added flavour to the event and some of the costumes were fantastic.

That does sound pretty funny. I may have to suggest this at our next meeting.

Yeah Sammy, we should have about 30 WW1 pilots just between the two local clubs. Pulling regional pilots should make this a great throw down.

My buddy Paul calls up and wants to fly his just finished Fokker in 45 minutes.
It's 40 out, cold and windy, but I'm not flying so 'sure, why not'!

Hey Paul....I finally figured out what ODP stood for......duh!
Nice video of your DVI. Still working on my pup, but it will be ready for the ODP. Unless I stuff it in the ground it before then.
There are several of us from Indiana who are planning on making the show.....also a friend from Arkansas who is coming in for the weekend.
He will be bringing his 1/3 scale Fok DVII and maybe his 1/3 DR1 if the rebuild proceeds as scheduled. There is also a 37% DR1 from the Indy area that should make it down to Cincinatti, too. Herman and I flew together about 10 years ago, he with his designer scale, 33% DR1 and me with a 1/3 scale Pup. We had a great time. There is a story,
"A Tale of Two Planes" on our RC Dawn Patrol site www.bealmear.com/dawn_patrol ......also my old Fok Eindecker E1 might get an update and be there. It is sort of retired right now.
It is a little tired after 4 hard years on the circuit.
It sounds like you are going to have a great turn out for your first Ohio Dawn Patrol. Your field is an ideal setting for a Dawn Patrol gathering!

Art,
Send some more build pics and tell Greg to send them too. I hope someone brings a 1/4 scale DR1,then we will have 25%, 33%,37%, 44% DR1 @ the ODP!!(thats Ohio Dawn Patrol...remember )I hope your E1 makes it to the show, thats a good lookin plane! Tell any of your "long distance" friends we will accomodate them anyway we can. Because of the " A tale of two planes" can I call you "Johnny Appleseed"? . I hope you are right about our "turn out" for the first year, we really want to be a part of this enormous fun you guys are having! See you @ 6, Paul

Darn, I will be in Germany in July. I will, however, be back by the August Hoosier Dawn Patrol in Muncie at the AMA site. I will have this ready to fly in a couple of weeks:

1/3rd scale Sopwith Triplane scratch buit. G62 for power

Hey Prop nut, thats a good looking tripe! How long did it take you to build it in the bones? What type of covering are you going to use?

THank you Peckergnatflyer, here is the build thread that I have. It has info and pictures from the bare bones up. I actually have it all covered, just waiting for better weather for the maiden and then I will do the paint and details. Hate to detail out a plane that turns out not to fly for more than a few seconds
