some pictures and videos.
There were a lot of 1/3 scale and highly detailed planes.
The trees in the 'pits' made for nice, comfortable viewing of the planes.
Lots of pilots there Friday morning, (I got six flights in on Friday), good food and videos to watch at sundown.

A 'walk' along the pits:

Here are some pictures before the event started. These are my landscape picture group.

Lee McDuffy did a great job on the flags going down the curved drive. They represent each nation that was involved in the Great War.

I'll have to tell you, being that it was my first ww1 airshow, I had a ball. I've been to a tone of airshows and you guys put on an awesome weekend. We felt like you guys really wanted us there and would do anything to make our stay worth wile. Thank you! You all have an awesome staff and awesome field. The trees provided some great shading. I'll have at least 2 or 3 WWI birds by next year and we are going to make the trip for sure. I can't wait!

Great Job guys!!!!

This fake machine gun was built by one of our club members. He fabricated all the pieces and built it around a paintball gun. While we flew, it was fired without ammo for the noise effect.

That mean looking chap is Art Shelton. I don't think he had any fun at this event

Hey Joe
PJ and I had a great time at your field this past weekend. It was hands downs one of the best events I have been to in a long time. The people, weather and food were all great. I am looking forward to next year and seeing everyone there again. I hope to see you guys at the southern dawn patrol event in Dec.
Thanks again and keep the pics coming
George

I just want to make it absolutely clear that the Brit's still didn't win this weekend. This Fokker will be ready for Rhinebeck!. I had a great time, looking forward to seeing everyone at the next event.

Barry, you must have been in the food line too long. The Pups dominated the skies

Awesome stuff guys. I'll be there in 2009, with at least two of my WW1 birds. I just picked up the 1/3rd M-S A-1, and a 1/4 Pup. Add that to my 1/4 D.VII and the 1/5th D.VIII now, its going to be a good time if it was anything like the fun you guys seemed to have at this one!

Barry, I'll see you at Rhienbeck then with my D.VII.

A little teaser of one of the two D.VII's from Jasta 10 that will be attending. This one is 234/18, the other will be 244/18.

Sorry if I'm fanning the German vs. British flames. But I noticed that food orders were being taken for dinner - German and British cuisine. I wonder which was ordered the most?

I hope everone got out before the weather broke late afternoon and evening on Sunday. It got pretty hairy around here.

The Germans won by two orders. They were pretty sneeky about it too..........they were last minute PHONE-IN orders

My hat is off to the gang at the Ohio Dawn Patrol! What a fantastic event. The setting is absolutely perfect.......hills, trees, even a river flows by the end of one of the runways! Plenty of space to camp and lots of sky for flying. Shade in the pit and camping areas.......lots of trees......and they don't even begin to encroach on the flying area!

Paul Westrich was the event director, but he had an outstanding crew.

If you were thinking of making the trip but wimped out.......too bad for you.......it is a must attend event for WW1 aircraft lovers!

It looks like Winterhawk got one.......it must have been a routine occurence for him or he was asleep and the other AA gunner got it!

Cheers,
Art

ps Propnut.....wish you were here......we will have to go on patrol together......your Tripehound and my Pup! see you at the Hoosier Dawn Patrol at Muncie next month!

Next time please sell us some of those Ohio Dawn Patrol T-shirts! I'd like to get one! This event was very well run. Love the dual runways: very handy given fluctuating wind conditions. This event for me marked the first trial flight with my automatic paintball gun mounted to the Pup. It worked very well for a cool machine gun sound!

best regards,
Greg Emerick
