Gary, I saw the thread on the NMPRA website. I couldn't get registered, so I'll post my $.02 here. I'm 100% new to racing planes. I'm hoping to get going in the T34 series here in California. It's pretty similar to the C40 class that is running around. I raced boats for 15 years, won a couple district championships, won a couple classes at the NAMBA Nationals, so I've been neck deep in racing before. Once my son was born I decided that spending 12 Sundays a year racing, plus 6-8 Sundays practicing, plus the 10 hours a week or so building, improving or maintaining my boats wasn't going to cut it. I fly mostly during the week on my lunch break. Lucky for me the field is only 3 miles from work. I wouldn't mind trying the 3 pole course, but 2 pole is what is running in my neck of the woods. I'm not into traveling anymore. I'd like to keep my trips to one day and less than 2 hours round trip. Unfortunately, 3 out of our 4 races are 2.5 hours away. I'm hoping to make it work as long as the racing doesn't go from dawn to dusk. Right now there isn't any 424 racing around here that know of. Most of Nor Cal is into Warbird racing of one sort or another. Club 40 has started to pick up in some areas too. To me 424 looks like a decent formula. It'd be nice if there were a couple more choices for ARFs. The availability of a conventional tail model would probably help attract more newbies than any other change you could make. At this point I can't see moving up to 428 or 422. They're not run locally and even if they were it's too expensive for my current budget. 5 years ago the budget wouldn't have bothered me as the costs are comparable to the boats I was running before I quit. Personally, I think you guys should try to encourage ANY type of racing that you can. Once people get the fever there's always the % that want something a little faster. The good thing about Club 40/T34 is that they are not purpose built racers so people don't feel like they're on the hook for a plane that they can only use once in a while. They fly great as a sport model so people want to fly them all the time. At my field there is always at least one T34 when I show up. When 2 or more show up there are invariably improptu races. BTW: The title of your post was REALLY vague. I completely missed it. If I hadn't been cruizing the NMPRA site I would never have noticed it. Chris
