matty2583 -> Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/18/2008 10:04:51 PM)

Hi All[:D]
I have a thunder tiger TS-4N with a pro 15 engine. i was wondering if it was possible to convert it from a single speed gear to a two speed gear? if yes then what do i need? is their any websites that stock the parts?
please reply
many thanks
matty[:D]

The TS-4N that I just got yesterday came with a 2-speed as standard equipment, but I see it's listed as an 'optional' part in the manual. Just looking at the 'close ratio' optional 2-speed in the hop-ups list, it looks like you need the spur gears and hubs, the clutch bell and pinions, 2 shafts, the clutch hub thing and various screws/washers. Might be cheaper to just buy the complete optional one. The part number listed in my manual for it is 'PD7675 2-speed, close ratio trans'.

I've found a load of TT parts at www.thundertiger4u.com

Here is the complete two-speed conversion from Modelsport in the UK.

thanks
i was wondering if anybody knows if it is dificult to install?

snowbl!nd -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/18/2008 11:39:35 PM)

Not especially - i think the 2-speed assembly comes with instructions anyway [sm=thumbup.gif]

thanks
one more thing....would you say that it is worth buying? does it improve it a lot or is their not much difference?
sorry for all the silly questions, im queriouse of these things

snowbl!nd -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/18/2008 11:46:10 PM)

I'd say so, if only for the wow factor of hearing it shift gears. It'll boost the acceleration a fair bit as well.

mrbonk -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/18/2008 11:48:09 PM)

If you set it correctly, it will allow you to have a lot more punch out of the corners and a better top speed on the straights. Because the shift point is adjustable, you can 'tune' it to your specific track, so you don't get it changing up half way through a corner etc.

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/18/2008 11:54:12 PM)

thanks for that
i think i'll decide to buy it when i get a bit more cash
what other upgrades could i get that would speed up my car?
do you know any other websites for thunder tiger products other than the ones you's have allready listed? i've found it hard to find products so far!
thanks both[:D]

mrbonk -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/19/2008 12:36:09 AM)

Those are the only websites I've seen so far, but I must admit I didn't do a lot of looking after I found that US based one.

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/20/2008 8:50:55 PM)

hi,
it might sound sily but how do you know if your cluth shoes need replaceing? is it obviouse?
many thanks for you help guys, the other day[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

mrbonk -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/20/2008 10:12:28 PM)

As your clutch shoes wear, it will need higher and higher revs to get the car moving. If you break a shoe or something else in the clutch, chances are it will lock against the bell and then it won't free-wheel like it should when the engine is idling or stopped.

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/20/2008 10:15:30 PM)

oh thanks for that, i was curiouse [:D]
i dont think they need replaceing yet
thanks

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/24/2008 11:43:29 AM)

hi
i was wondering if anybody could recomend a glow plug for my ts4n?
by upgading the glow plug to a decent one, would it help start my car easier?
thanks

snowbl!nd -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/24/2008 2:10:58 PM)

What fuel are you running? Anything below 16% nitro i'd reccomend OS LC3s, above 16% then an OS 8 would probably run better.

Trouble getting the engine to start is usually down to tuning, although a damaged plug wouldn't help.

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/24/2008 6:54:59 PM)

im running it on 16% so i shall look for a OS 8.
it was workin fine but my pull start snaped and i replased it with a tiger drive electric starter tiger drive electric starter (different serial number to mine by one number)
this was recomended by my model shop as he cross referenced it.
it was still working with that for a few days but then my spur gear had to be replaced and after waiting a week for my replacement to come, my car wasnt started. i fitted the new spur gear and since then it has started taking a wile for it to fire up. i havnt changed a thing on the engine its self (ie. idler needle and the others)
i was wondering if it could have been with it not being started for a week and adding to that being left in the garage with no warmth
thanks
matty

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/29/2008 7:24:58 PM)

hey
it might sound daft but i was wondering, does it matter what percentage the nitro fuel is tht you use?
matty
(has anybody got anything to comment on my last post i made above?)

snowbl!nd -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/29/2008 7:37:26 PM)

Changes in humidity/temp/air pressure during the week will throw off a tune and as a result it can be harder to start even though you've not touched the needles. Warming the engine in the house or with a hairdryer prior to starting (and then re-tuing once you get it going) should allow it to start more easily.

Yes, the nitro % is important, it helps to determine the tune you'll need, the ideal plug etc.

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/29/2008 7:44:56 PM)

wel at the minute i am using Model Technics QWIKFIRE 16% Nitro fuel but my model shop recomends me to use Tornado 16% Nitro fuel. i was wondering if i could go to 20% or should i just stick at 16%?
thanks
matty

snowbl!nd -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/29/2008 7:50:09 PM)

Sure you could switch to 20%, but unless you really need the tiny increase in power that an additional 4% nitro would provide it's probably not worth the hastle.

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/29/2008 7:51:37 PM)

oh okay thanks

mrbonk -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (2/29/2008 9:59:32 PM)

At a really basic level:

* More nitro = less methanol = different plug temp range required
* More nitro = more power
* More power = more wear on your engine
* More nitro = higher cost per litre
* More nitro = retuning your engine

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (3/31/2008 9:40:38 PM)

hi, ive sorted out my starting problem now, thanks for all you help.
i have another thing now but it might not be possible.
after having to change my pull starter to a drill starter, it didnt leave enough room for my exhaust, so i have adapted it abit using some DIY bits n bobs, but it weeps a bit. i was wondering if anybody knows if you can get a longer manifold (i think thats what it is) so that it would clear my starter? (i think ive added a pic to show my exhaust any help would be greatful)
many thanks
matty

matty2583 -> RE: Thunder Tiger TS-4N upgrade (4/7/2008 8:05:50 PM)

anybody have any ideas about my exhaust? and i am also wanting to know if anybody knows any good radio gear at a good price and if you can waterproof it?
many thanks
matty

How much wider is the roto-start backplate than the regular pull start one?
