Hello all,

I am not sure if I should post my inquiry over here. But its worth asking. I just started with lipo batteries and I am not sure how to check there voltage. I read in some online post that I should use a multimeter to check it but when I used the craftmans multimeter it simply shows the capacity of the battery or in other words it shows that the battery is fully charged which is not true. I check the battery by moving the selector on the multimeter to DC voltage. So please let me know if I am doing somehting wrong or do I need a different kind of meter.

Thanks

DC voltage is correct to read the voltage.

Thanks guver,

I checked two batteries one is new 11.1V and the meter showed that it is fully charged and the second one has been used couple of times and needs charging( as the Heli I was using it won't fly)but when I connected the meter to it, it again showed that it has 11.1V. So I am not sure which to believe on.

Thanks

Hmm, 11.1 is pretty much discharged all the way. A 3S should be 12.6 volts when full.

11.1V is no where near fully charged..

A fully charged lipo cell is 4.2V.. Take the number of cells in the pack (as long as they are not paralleled) and multiply by 4.2 and that will give you fully charged..

They are fully discharged when each cell has a voltage of 3.0 volts. It is important not to exceed both the high voltage of 4.2 volts and the low voltage of 3.0 volts.

Alright now I know that it is not fully charged. I read some where that the ESC should be programmed in such a way that it souldn't let the lipo go below 3.3V per cell. Is this doable with all the ESC and how. I have a E-Sky heli that has a lipo, it came with its own charger+balancer in one that I used to charge. Now I am not sure how to find out if the ESC is programmed the rigth way. If not then how to program.

Thanks

What ESC do you have?
