Well I might get laughed out of here if I tell you my purchase yesterday, it's a katana v2, has 46ax on it, all I have to do is add battery and rx. I've gotten some great help over at FG, and they are suggesting same thing I been doing, sim time, more sim time, and burn some fuel. I may change my mind and order the mojo, and get to work building, just haven't decided yet. The real plane comments I just don't get, if it has an engine,a prop, and wing,it's a plane. Is a profile plane for everyone, apparently not. I never seen myself with one,but I now own 2,from what I gathered it's a great learning tool and I am going to use it as such. I'll get a few pics up in a bit, need to snap some first

Looks really good!

Nothing wrong with that Kat V2 either. Just a little fragile. If you are still thinking about the Mojo, I would highly recommend it. The tube in the fuse really helps with the dorks that are present on the learning curve. I only mention it because you had said you were looking at it before.

The 55 wil be perfect on that CY.

I've changed my mind before, so ya never know. I'd like to build one, this way when things need fixed,I'll have a little more insight on how to fix em. I'm looking at a few kits I'm not 100% sure but I thought there was or used to be a kit version of the chin yak? I can't find it so maybe it used to be.

"Used to be" is exactly right. They are very rare these days. Every once in a while, an unbuilt one comes up for sale on the other site. It's usually gone within 5 minutes or so.

Your bird looks great, btw. If you decide to build a MoJo, you won't regret it. You might also want to consider the Primo. It's a bit "looser" than the MoJo and after that CY, the MoJo might seem a bit tame.

A big thanks to Johnny Mojo for clarifying my previous post. After re-reading what I wrote, I could see how it could be taken in an unintended way. Ohnoucdat, if you took it wrong, then I apologize for that.

ENOUGH OF THIS......BACK TO AIRPLANES!

Glad to hear you got a Kat 46 V2! I've still got one of those, and used to fly it with a TT Pro 46. The 46AX should work slightly better, especially with an APC 12x4. Later on if you want more power and less weight, build a Mousse Can Pipe to replace the stock muffler. The 55AX would be an even better choice.

I would HIGHLY advise getting and building a Mojo kit. The Mojo is one of the best 3D profile trainers out there. It flys great and is extremely rugged, which will give you the confidence to bring the plane down low where you can actually see and learn from your mistakes.

When learning 3D, the plane needs to be close enough in order to visually recognize and correct for very small errors that simply can't be seen at a distance. The plane also needs to be kept at a fairly low altitude so when you do make a mistake and dork the plane into the ground, it doesn't build up enough inertia to do any damage.

Every golden rule you learned to keep your normal planes safe and out of trouble will have to be unlearned for 3D flying. Altitude is no longer your friend. Speed is no longer your friend. Throttling back to idle to regain control is the wrong thing to do. And pulling up elevator to recover from a sticky situation is usually not a good idea.

Learning to fly 3D is like starting all over again.......complete with the adrenaline rushes you used to get when you were first learning to solo. Remember those? It's the constant stream of adrenalin rushes that make these 3D profiles so addictive.

With a Chinn Yak, a Kat 46 V2, and a Mojo in your hangar, that's a pretty impressive fleet of 3D profile planes. The only improvement I can think of would be to learn to fly them in the reverse order. But that's a subject for a different day.

Welcome to 3D profile planes! You are about to discover a whole new world of RC planes packed so full of thrills you never even dreamed it was possible.

(edited to correct "alittude" into "altitude")

Learn it, live it, love it! {edited because I didn't LERAN to spell learn}

+1 on the Mojo / Primo.

This post should be a sticky and required reading for anyone considering flying 3D Everything Dave said is right on & if there's any doubt just watch the video at the Extreme Flight Chinn Yak page - that is McDDD flying.

Adrenalin rush, butt pucker moments = smiles, grins, and new skills. One reason the mojo was on my radar was the fact that it was suggested several times in threads I read here and there as a first profile, but I had already purchased the chin. I may start with the katana. I have the throws very conservative on the yak, and I have no delusions of starting out DOD, gonna get up a few mistakes high, and see where we are. If it is a little much, then I'll jump bk on here and start looking for more suggestions. If they do, NO when they get dinged up, that's what they make glue ,balsa, and covering for. I've got a few planes, that seem to fly better after I've dinked em, and patched em bk up, maybe this will be the same with this plane. I'm ready to knock the new off this thing, and start having some of this fun ya'll talking bout

Based on that post, you already have a Probro attitude, and you haven't even flown your plane yet.

Until you get a Mojo built and flying, I would save the Chinn Yak for later and sacrifice the Katana for your first serious 3D training sessions. That doesn't mean you should hold off test flying the Chinn Yak for now, but be sure to save it for later after you've learned the basics on a Mojo.

Dorking and repairing are a necessary evil of learning to fly 3D. If you're not dorking the plane, then you're really not pushing yourself hard enough to learn anything of value. The good news is that quick and dirty field repairs with glue and tape will keep you flying.

Here's an example of a Mojo that has pretty much been through the wringer and back. The owner/pilot is a friend of mine and is one of the most talented pilots I've ever seen. If you ever saw him 3D this mangled up Mojo, you'd be tempted to remove all those "extra" parts from yours too.

Dave, I've got some video of Gary flying that bird at Nash 08, but it's on my work computer. If I can find it, I'll post it here or on youtube tomorrow. It's amazing what can be accomplished with thumbs like Gary....or you.

Yep, Ohnoucdat is definitely Probro material in raw form. I can't wait to hear his comments after he's flown the Chinn Yak a few times.

Here is Gary flying the beat up MoJo shown in the pic above. I couldn't find the original footage of the whole flight, so I stripped a piece out of the Nash '08 video I made. This flight was Friday night under the lights, which will be obvious.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paTMWDGEruc

It's processing at the moment, but should be ready to view soon.

Youtube says the video of Gary was removed because it was too long, and exceeded the 10 minute limit.

Can you edit it down to two or three minutes and try posting it again?

My best guess would be the 13x4.
