Hi all
I recently bought a YT International Katana 40, I have fitted it out with a Saito 82A 4 stroke engine, 14x6 APC Prop, JR servo's and JR sythesized receiver, the problem I have encountered is with the C of G, in the destruction manual it says that is is 99.2mm back from the leading edge of the wing but with my battery mounted under the fuel tank and the receiver as far forward as possible it is tail heavy, so I'm wondering if the manual is wrong or do I have to put a load of lead i the nose to balance it.

Kev.

I dont have that particular Katana, but if you'll send me some #'s I can ckeck your cg range for you...it's easy.

Your leading edge is straight, not tapered back right?

If so, just tell me the exact chord ( dist from leading edge to trailing edge) at the root (where wing joins fuse) and tip. The range will be 25-30% of the average of those numbers, measured from the ldg edge.

Thakns for the reply, to view my particular Katana use this link http://www.ytinternational.co.uk/yt_new_web_site_033.htm , the wing has a tapered leading edge and the measurements are: Wing Half 27.5" (698mm), Leading Edge to Rear 17" (430mm) Wing tip leading edge to rear 9 5/8" (245mm), hope that helps.

Anytime you have a problem like you've described, there is a absolutely reliable way to get the answer in about 5 minutes.

Get out a yardstick and measure the sucker and plug those into:

http://www.geistware.com/rcmodeling/cg_super_calc.htm

It asks for 9 measurements and one option. Tell it 5% for the option and run it. Write down that location. Then tell it 20% for the option and run it again. Write that down, and you have the range for safe CG locations on that exact model you just measured.

If you had a big enough yardstick you could do the same with a C-5a and the sucker would fly safely with a CG in the range that gave.

no prob with the taper, still simple...

average chord = 337mm
forward limit (25%) = 84mm from leading edge as measured halfway between wing root and tip
aft limit (33%) = 111mm from " " " " " " " " " "

I'd start at the forward side and work your way back slowly to see where it does best for your personal tastes...a trade off between manueverability and stability.

Hope this helped, Don.
