I'd LOVE to have the ability to control a Heng Long tank with a "normal" controller.

Even if the Mod offered no additional features other then allowing a Tx swap, I think it would still be more then worthwhile.

Phil,

I have a S&S Panzer III. I have the Impact suspension upgrade and metal tracks, but per Steve Patton, I'm going to run it stock for now. I will add the DBC (with sound) and a Tamiya TBU.

With as many tanks as we run, I'd really like to see Darkith go ahead with a circuit that could work with after-market radios and possibly ESC's.

Kevin,

Very Cool, Ya because we will run out of frequencies soon! How does that tank roll with all that metal? On Darkith, maybe we will hear from him soon? Too me its like the car market in this sense, sure people want the BMW,( EL MOD), The Bentley (Tamiya), but there is a large population who will just want a Toyota or Honda with some of the features of the High end but not the total high end cost!

I sketched out the hardware that would allow you to run a stock Heng Long ESC but with a "regular" RC radio on 75mhz, 2.4ghz or any other legal ground frequency.
recoil blocking option
no-superspin option
momentum option
weight classes (light, med, heavy)
3 sound outputs (fire, hit, destroyed). Only 2 sounds on card (either need another card or choose what sounds)
LED cannon flash driver
settings via radio after setting jumper (only one onboard jumper)
4 channel radio required

And if time/code space permits:
5 channel radio for better control
Driver for servo to recoil barrel

Some of the requested features may be doable in combination with this circuit. For example, you could connect the turret elevation channel directly from the RX to a bi-directional ESC and have bi-directional (no cycling around) control of the turret elevation.

Build complexity isn't much different from the standard DBC. Picture shows a rendering, though some of the board text (e.g. channel labels) have disappeared for some reason.

I'm guesstimating cost at around $55, as there are additional parts over the standard DBC (voltage regulator, servo cables to connect to RX, another FET for cannon flash, PIC chip with more IO pins). Plus you'd need to buy a DBU ($15) or TBU for battling, plus the optional sound card (2 sounds for $15).

So, given the higher cost and mentioned features (with some possibly not happening due to hardware limitations), are people still seriously interested? If so, I'll order some beta PCBs and start working on the code.

D.

hey darkith,
Would it be possible to wire in an MP3 decoding chip such as a VS1011? Or use a kit that uses that chip such as Daisy MP3, i believe it is fully serial or SPI controllable which would be perfect.

An alternative to EL MODs Booster/TLS/Blaster would be great!

I thought about an MP3 chip, but so far I haven't seen one that would mix multiple channels (like if you wanted simultaneous engine noise, track noise, and mix in gun firing or hits on top). Plus I want to keep this a decent featured, but low-cost alternative to Tamiya or Elmod electronics. I'll keep looking for the future, but for now I think I'm going to go ahead with the limited sound setup.

Heh, no pre-orders just yet guys, I want to at least sketch out and have most of the code ready before committing too much. Though if all goes well I'll be happy to receive orders when I'm ready, as it'll cost a bit to order in the parts for the first round of kits. Hopefully soon, depends on how much free time I can snag.

Lol, kids, eh? I think the exchange rate is too steep on those these days...

Thanks for the support,
David

Hi David, I will definitely buy 1, as I think I just fried my DBC last nite when tryingto repair teh DBU with some IR detectors I got locally.

Btw, I just wantto find out some things to see if I can redeem what have left with. Your PIC chip is programmed by urself? thus if I get a replacement chip it will not work withteh DBC? Also how do I know if I blown teh chip internally as they seem to have no damage externally.

Next, can you give me teh specs of your IR detectors as I got some 940nm detectors but some how they did not work with the DBU and blew some stuff in my tank(includingteh HL main board).

Thanks for your time
