If you are asking about the engine shut down sound bite I would think not. It is just another sound bite for the already crowded sound system. Of course that is just my opinion and my main focus is on tank battling not tooling around the property.

On the other hand, a way to put it to “sleep” is essential on the battlefield. Once you have been killed you need to leave the tank where it sits without any sounds or blinking lights. Dead is dead. That is why we add the 5th channel relay to turn on/off the signal into channel 1 on the DMD.

Status: offline 		Don't know if it makes a difference, but the Tamiya Engine Start-Up / Shut-Down sounds occur when the system receives a Tx signal.

One advantage is that if you tank keeps starting up and shutting down, you know you battery is low, or your Tx is not working properly.

The battle system also shuts off when you turn off your Tx. That way a dead tank can sit on the battlefield and not keep taking hits.

Status: offline 		The thing abt the DBC/DBU I noticed during battles is that even after engine shut down(you press the key button) you still get hits, if you 1st turn on the main switch(without pressing the key button) the IR will not fire. But if you press the key button(activate the tank) then after start up and shutdown the tank (press key button again) the ir will fire if you press the K button. I think you might have some concerns if you know abt this.

Anyway to get back to the engine shutdown issue, I dun mind not having it as long as the tank does not run away when I turn off my TX. Also what channel do they map the 'key' button to then?

Status: offline 		I too would like to see a reasonable priced IR set up for the HL tanks. I own HL,s and a Tamiya and I feal that for roughr play the HL,s may actually be a little more robust and can handle a little more abuse. My kid loves to play with them and we all know how rough kids can be on stuff. Just my thoughts . Dont want to piss off the Tamiya loyal.

Finished up almost all the code, testing against my Futaba TX & Hitec RX. Works great.
Tested it with my Spektrum DX7 & AR6100, and nothing was working. Find out that the Spektrum RX puts out an ever so slightly lower voltage on it's servo channels, which the PIC doesn't detect reliably. I'm going to have to redesign the inputs, but that shouldn't take too long...I hope.

I have the basic features working great.
recoil blocking option
no-superspin option
momentum option
weight classes (light, med, heavy)
3 sound outputs (fire, hit, destroyed). Can use one sound card (either with hit&fire(HL recoil/sound blocked), or hit&destroyed(use HL fire sound)) or two cards with all three sounds.
LED cannon flash driver
settings via radio after setting jumper (only one onboard jumper)
4 channel radio required
Driver for micro servo to recoil barrel (voltage regulator may require extra heatsinking)

Still working on:
5 channel radio for better control

Engine startup is handled by blipping full throttle. The Engine will shutdown if the radio signal is lost, and will startup again once it's found. Battling is disabled when the engine gets shutdown.
These are the controls in four channel mode:
Throttle
Steering
Turret rotation
And "Gun".
-full up: elevation cycles
-part up: MG fires
-part down: airsoft cycles and fires
-full down: main cannon (and IR firing)

Once I get the new design done and tested, I'll probably start taking pre-orders to gauge the actual interest, and ensure there's enough buyers before bringing in a bunch of parts (from even more vendors than the regular DBC).

Status: offline 		I'd have to drop Vcc to < 3.7volts, which would be insufficient voltage to drive the servos (so either have to drop the recoil or have 2 regulators) plus the PIC isn't rated for 20mhz at below 4.5v.

I'm rearranging the RX inputs from the Schmitt trigger inputs (0.8 * Vcc) on PortA to the TTL inputs on PortB (2.0V), which should do the trick. Apparently some Futaba PCM RXes even go as low as 2.7V (the AR6100 outputs 3.0V signals).

Status: offline 		Darkith Not to be left out over in England the most common frqz are 27 mhz /40 mhz the 40 mhz are at a very resonable price 2.4ghzt are not cheap here as for 75mhz the sets are like hens teeth i think we in England have more frqz on 27 mhz than in the States 6 main and 7 split channels the only frqz we are not allowed to use is 35 mhz this is for aircraft only .thought you might consider this when you are doing the dark art stuff i would like mine to use 40 mhz lots of channels and radios at a resonable price ,is it posible because you have only talked about using 2.4 ghz or 75 mhz ,like i said 2.4 expencive 75 cant find .

Status: offline 		I think Pete what Dave has done is produce a box that you plug in to you own receiver, what ever it may be, 27, 40, 75 or 2.4, provided it has enough channels.

So you buy your radio gear, and plug it into Dave's magic box, then Dave's magic box plugs in to HL motors & LED's.

Status: offline 		Yup. Simon's got the gist of it. This new DBC version should work with any standard modern RC RX with 4+ channels. It just basically needs a standard servo signal for each channel. Doesn't matter if the radio uses 27, 40, 49, 50, 72, 75, 900, or 2400 mhz. Naturally, some frequencies are better to use because they are less crowded and less prone to motor noise interference, but choose what you like.
Legality of using any frequency is up to the end user of course.

On the plus side, I tested my new DBC last night with my Spektrum DX7 and it worked like a charm!!! Yay!!!
