Would be tricky to implement, as I can't guarantee that people would have a middle position.
I wonder how many radios there are out there that have >4 channels which are all 2 position switches. :P
If I could assume that the fifth channel (which doesn't have to be channel 5 of course) has 3 positions (e.g. 3 pos switch or pot), I *could* combine 3 & 4 into a scenario where:
Neutral: Gun stick gives elevation and main cannon
High: Gun stick gives Airsoft and MG
Low: Gun stick turns on/off engine

On a plus note, the PCBs arrived yesterday. Now only waiting for the components and I'm good to go.

Built a unit on the PCB using some extra components I had on hand. DBC-RC2HL 4 channel works fine, battled in the living room using my Futaba radio and everything functioned as expected.

Getting closer...

Great news David. I have a new Pzr IIIh coming from Mato that should be here end of the week. All the other parts are already "in stock." I am planning the first tank to be as stock as possible with a Specktrum radio and Tamiya TBU. My goal with this project is to make a low cost, reliable, battle ready tank in the hopes of getting more new people involved in our club (DAK). If it works we could have platoons of HL tanks at half the cost of a FO Tamiya.

Last batch of parts have arrived at the post office, hope to pick them up today.

Fifth channel code is done:
High gives you "barrel elevation" and "main cannon/IR" on the gun stick.
Neutral gives you "MG" and "airsoft" on the gun stick.
Low shuts off the engine/DBC.

This way, if you have a 3 pos switch or pot, you can use all the functions as you wish.
If you only have a 2 pos switch, you can still battle and shutdown your engine, but if you want MG/Airsoft you have to use 4 channel mode (shouldn't happen to many people I think).

Everything seems to test out okay as well, so I'm about ready to pack things up and ship them out. If anybody needs to adjust their order (e.g. another unit or you forgot to get a DBU sensor), now would be the time.

Cheers,
David

Let's see, extra connections to fire multiple main guns or multiple machine guns, search light function, ahhhh smoke grenade signal, ahhhh accessory switch to run extra sound unit (make the crew sing or dies) sound unit would not have to be part of package, or on board camera. I guess just the idea of having one or more accessory switches and multiple jacks for duplicate functions sort of sums it up. Hope i did not reach to far.
