The price is about $60.00 USD (give or take a buck or two) for 5 gallons.....breaks down to about $3.00 per quart.

2380 is about $12.00 USD per quart, so Mobil DTE Lite is about 1/4 the cost.

MrMike has been running it in his engines for some time now, and is happy as a clam with it!
He turned me on to it, but I have 3 cases of 2197 (360 gallons of fuel worth) on hand. If I live long enough to burn it up, I might make the switch.

Sean and Harley,
Why don't you post your turbine oil here at RCU for sale and those that use those brands can buy them from you and you can switch over?

Well,
If you recall, a little less than two years ago I bought several cases of 2197 at a very good price. I mentioned this on RCU, and several people called my contact in Salt Lake City and bought case lots for themselves at $6.00 a quart.

I sold a few cases to friends in the local area, and kept the rest for myself.
I still have about 2 1/2 cases left (not three as I previously stated). If I sold it, I would have to replace it, and since I don't have much invested, I think I'll just use it up.

Harley,
That's a lot better than what I had to pay for the turbine oil. I paid $11.00 per quart.

At the price you bought it for might as well use it. The only other thing is from the studying up on the turbine oil that I did....the turbine oil does seem to be not very friendly to the human body as opposed to the Mobil DTE Light.

I got it here locally from a petroleum company. I can't remember their name right now but will try and find it and post it here. The problem is if they have it shipped to them and then turn around and ship it back out again I doubt it will be that price. Maybe they can have it drop shipped.

I will look for their name and phone number.

Jim,
Here it is. It's the one in Springfield, MO

http://sacopetroleum.com/

The company I work for does business with this company so they may have given me a special price but if they did...they didn't tell me they did.

Don,
You are right about the carcinogenic effect of certain oils. I try not to get any of the undiluted oil on me.

I found some oil on eBay right now...somebody in Florida has 12 quarts of 2197 for $6.00 a quart. He aslo has some Mobil Jet II for a good price too. It's woth looking into.
Maybe he will make you an offer you can't refuse if you buy all of it. .

Harley,
I have a brand new 5 gallon container of Mobil DTE Light and I mix it at 2.5% so I am guessing it will last me a few flights but I appreciate you looking out for me with the good deal on this other oil. Unless I screwed up on my math I think that's 200 gallons of jet fuel so I'll need to get busy to use it all up! [X(]

All good stuff guys, keep it coming.

And for the benefit of others, please post your Mobil distributor's location, and what you are paying $, for a 5 gallon jug ?

Well, I don't have any engines that I can run 2.5% in (As far as I know).
When Bob Wilcox gives me the okay to drop from 5% to 2.5%, I'll make a very careful transition......

I have Artes and they recommend 2.5% mix and it has the lifetime warranty so I should be ok.

I've run this oil on my Wren Supersport for 42 hours, went in for routine service and not carbon buildup. Works great! Not sure what other manufacturers recommend.

I also changed to this oil for health reasons. The bonus is it's 1/5 the price I pay for turbine oil. I filter my fuel as I mix it & turbine oil used to leave a waxy yellow deposit in the filter which slows down the flow. The DTE slips straight through. The only down side to DTE I can find is that it's clear so it makes it a little harder to check fuel levels by eye. - John.

Guys,

What class or type of oil is Mobil DTE light? Pardon my ignorance! Is it similar to TCW3 2 stroke outboard oil?

John, where do you get your oil from here in oz?

Thanks for your help guys.

Craig.

Craig,
Here is a web site for information http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub..._DTE_Named.asp

Also, there has been a couple very good threads about it here at RCUniverse. Do a search here to read up on it.

It was the information in these threads that caused me to switch over. Check the threads out. There is a lot of very good information in them and guys that have been using it in their turbines talk about it.

The cheaper price is nice but I believe it to be a lot better for the enviornment and for us physically.

Hi Craig, DTE light is an industrial turbine oil. Interestingly, I don't think any turbine oil is designed to be burnt like oil in a 2 stroke engine, just circulated round & round like in your car.

Mobil oil (apart from automative) seems to be sold through authorised third parties in Oz.

I bought mine from a company called Lubes Direct from Penrith in western Sydney.

I googled Mobil oil distributors & found this one in Perth:

http://www.statewideoil.com.au/main.asp

Good luck, John.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the great info.

I had already done some searches and reading on turbine oils but had missed some of the threads.....great info in there. Will chase up some DTE light.

Thanks again.

Craig.
