crashsiegel -> RE: Electrifying a Club 40 plane? (3/1/2008 2:10:30 AM)

Hey guys, Got a call from a former club member, Ken, and he mentioned this thread. You see I did it! [X(] Electrocuted a WM Sky Raider Mach 2 and it worked well. Build thread (and fate) here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=595593 Several club members flew it. All said it had PLENTY of power, fast enough, maybe a little heavy - high wing loading. Which is what did me in - low, slow final and SNAP! Planted it! Sigh! If starting from scratch I might use MotorCalc (or other) and research using an inexpensive setup from United Hobbies. A123's will work fine for this application (buy them from Mike at www.bigerc.com) - a little heavy and short run time - BUT the run time will get you thru the race and then some. See the thread for details. Lipo's would lighten the load. Also, next time I will mount the motor reversered and eliminate the heavy alum mount I used. Hope it helps, Crash P.S. Yes, I am living down to my name BUT LOVING IT! [:D] [:)]
