I know some guys have electricfied Club 40 planes. I'm interested in what power system components will work and what the best setups are.

What about changing the batteries? Is it possible to make a hatch so you don't have to take the wing off to change batteries, or is is easiest to just take the wing off?

I would be real interested in seeing photos of electric conversions.

Will an electric Skyraider be called Club Brushless?

Hey guys,
Got a call from a former club member, Ken, and he mentioned this thread.
You see I did it! [X(]
Electrocuted a WM Sky Raider Mach 2 and it worked well.
Build thread (and fate) here:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=595593

Several club members flew it.
All said it had PLENTY of power, fast enough, maybe a little heavy - high wing loading.
Which is what did me in - low, slow final and SNAP! Planted it!
Sigh!

If starting from scratch I might use MotorCalc (or other) and research using an inexpensive setup from United Hobbies.
A123's will work fine for this application (buy them from Mike at www.bigerc.com) - a little heavy and short run time - BUT the run time will get you thru the race and then some. See the thread for details. Lipo's would lighten the load. Also, next time I will mount the motor reversered and eliminate the heavy alum mount I used.

Hope it helps,
Crash
P.S. Yes, I am living down to my name BUT LOVING IT! [:D] [:)]

Don - I've thought about using my big E setup (AXi 2826/12 and 4C 3700 lipo's) in my reserve SRII. I've not done it . . . just thought about it. - Seth
