Hi,
If your gonna go w/ the 60# research your sources. make sure they can supply parts etc. rather than buy straight from China. Make sure it's a latest version. there's a lot of older ones that don't have the better rotor bits, gyro. if you can get one w/ li-po battery & brushless motor definately go w/ that.
At the end of the day, your paying less for the gamble that you might get a dud, but there a plenty of happy wlk 60# pilots.

I recently bought a 60B chassis, with all the aluminum parts already installed, on ebay for $30 +shipping argh didn't notice that until it was too late.
It didn't include any of the elctrics, so I bought everything seperate.

I have a Futaba 9CH radio
and for the Walkera 60B I got these components
1)Elf Hobbies brushless motor and 35A ESC, with the beveled pinion. ($40 at Ehirobo)
2)Futaba GY401 ($95 on ebay)
3)3x Hitec HS-65MG servos ($35ea at hobby store) I did have to make my own servo mounts for these, used 5052 aluminum similar to the original mounts.
4)Hitec HS-81 for the tail servo
5)1500mAh 3S 20C Li-Po battery from hobby city for $20
6)Castle Creations berg7 7ch receiver ($44 on 20% sale in march)

So for alot less than a TREX I have something that might be fairly good, maybe until it crashes. But then the parts are very cheap and easy to get.
I also got a full set of the metal upgrades (head, swash, tail, boom, linkages, and 4 spare blades) for $27 on ebay incase I crash.

All of these parts, with the exception of the Elf Hobbies brushless motor could be moved to a Trex or Beam 450 size heli in the future if I want to.

I like the simplicity of the Walkera 60B head, it is a much better design than the regular Walkera 60# head design.

I mounted the receiver in the chassis and mounted the battery up front, for correct balance, and bent the plate to allow it all to fit in the canopy.

I also have a Walkera h1#b, that is all stock, and though I heavily crashed it yesterday, it is still easy and cheap to fix. I have not had problems with the Walkera electronics on the 1b so far.

I got me a walkera 60 the first of the year. With hind sight being 20/20 as it is, if I had it to do all over I would be flying a Trex. In three months time I have replaced every thing on the bird at least once with the exception of the gyro, and I'm sure it's next. The details and $$$ amounts are far too many and painful to list but for the money I've invested I could have been flying a top of the line Trex. The 60 is no longer a hobby, but more of a quest to make it work. In defence of the walkera name I'd say it's been a 50/50 toss up between my inexperence and some very unforgiving equiptment.

In all fairness, there is a huge difference between the Walkera 60 and the 60B!

The head design on the 60B is completely different and much easier to setup and replace parts. More simple and elegant. The 60C is the same as the 60B except the 60C does not have the metal tail assembly

Walkera 60 (plastic head)

60B head (metal)

VulcanGrey, Yes you make a good point and in all fairness, I too should have been more clear also. As it is true I originally got a DF 60, I soon after got a DF 60-B kit for a moderate price figureing it was a good deal to have a spare everything plus the option to upgrade to the CNCs when I became a better flyer. To my suprise the B-kit came into use far quicker that I care to mention. My hats is off to the CNC units because they are far better to fly that the plastic heads, as well as they are about the only thing I haven't tore up yet. Right now I sit waiting for a new upper frame to arrive (my third one) because I keep splitting it just behind the motor. I could be more specific about my problems but I don't care to dicker as to which are equiptment failures and which is pilot error, but do understand that I state ALL of this with a sence of humor, (gata laugh or I'm gona cry). A lesser man would have shelved the bird and let it collect dust, but I am determined to make it work. The long and short of my story is that with the money I've invested in this bird I could be flying a Trex SE, but I ain't sating it wouldn't be broke right now too. Laugh with me people...

I bought a 60 and I also bought the head to make mine upgradable to the 60B (I'll never do that again) In all honesty, I have about 30 helis. Most are 450 size helis. The walkera 60 was my biggest headache (notice I said "was" It did fly but it was short lived. I didnt crash it but it just didnt work right and when It came, it was damaged This damage was not from shipping because the box wasnt crushed. It looked like the heli was flown and had a hard landing. The aluminum frames are really lame, way to flexible and easily bent.
If youre looking for a good inexpensive heli the size of the 60, look at the belt CP ( I have about 4 of them I like em so much)

Ok, so you sound like you have a lot of experience with the helis.

Take a look at my setup above. No Walkera electronics, just the full metal 60B chassis.

Forgetting the fact that yours came damaged, as mine did not, in your experience is there anything wrong with the setup that I have above?

Is there anything lacking in the fundamental design of
1) the head? Looks prett elegant, simple and fairly robust to me
2)the tail design? Looks very similar to the TREX 450SE V2 to me, or the BEAM E4, and better than the TREX 500 tail.
3) the swash? all metal, good bearings?
4) how the servos are configured and how they directly connect to the swash?
5)flybar ratio? good bad or indifferent

The chassis I'm not really worried about, it is simple and I could always buy a spare, or make my own... CF or whatever, I recently laser welded the fybar control ball back together on my other heli, cause I broke it putting it back together, and didn't want to wait for parts.

VulcanGrey,
If you can make a CF frame for the DF-60s I know I for one would be VERY interested in buying a couple of them from you. I would be interested in the upper frame. Because other than questionable electronics that upper frame is by far the weekest point of my bird.

i have the walkera 60 as well and have switched from stock radio and reciever, i bought a jr 8103 also a jr r770s reciever. i have just recieved the reciever today actually and still have one servo to put on . kinda tryin to figure out how to set it so it works on my aux channel. or if i should just splice into the aile channel with the other one... i have had heartache with this bird so far , but its all good. as for the upper frame yes it is weak... very weak. lets see who comes out with cf for this bird and what cost?.....

Nitro,
As you can tell from my upper posts I too have had heartache with the 60. I've had it for a little more than three months and it's been in the air maybe 15 minutes total. I just put my third upper frame in tonight and in an attempt to get some rigidity out of this frame wrapped a couple of pieces of stainless steel wire from the old servo holder on the front down around the bracket for the RX. I hope to keep the spot just behind the motor from bending and splitting. I also changed from the plastic motor mount to the metal bracket that comes with the B-frame.
A guy on another forum had tried to generate enough interest to start production of a CF frame for the 60s. He had blue prints made up but few people responded so he didn't go any farther with the idea. I emailed him and he gave me the web site of his intended producer and I emailed that company. The guy who responded told me that it would not be worth the money it would cost me only to have a few made. I also made a couple other quick inquiries to other CF companys and got basicly the same reply.
Anyway, I'm in the air for now, again, see how long it lasts this time. But if any one else can find anything more about a CF frame I would like to be first in line to buy two, I like to have a spare. Gravity sucks.

hello guys i am flying a walkera 60 b with the cnc upgrades but i bought it for 120 australian dollars new of ebay without the electronics which suited me fine as i have my own but in all fareness it has been a good hele overall ,its not a trex of course but it still can do 3d with the right electronics and parts are cheep to replace so in all fareness some1 who is starting off ,if they can buy 1 without the electronics and buy them seperatly remember u can use them later in a better hele like the tres 450 se etc but i would not pay several hundred dollars for 1 with the electronics and just some advice for those who have a walkera 60 and have the original tx and rx buy a couple of ferrite noise reducers as a friend of mine has 1 and it stopped alot of the electronic glitching and has made it a reasonable hele ,well i mean quite flyable and light 3d
can any1 tell me please if the can would a 11.1 volt 4000 milliamp lipo be to heavy for the walkera 60 to handle as they wieght is 290g , i am running a 430 aligne brushless motor with a 40 amp esc ,i am just asking as i can buy new ones from hong kong for just under 20 dollars god knows how long they will last but for that money they seem excellent value
thanks guys great forum here i love it and i have learned alot here
