hahhhh glorified kingpin...lol...hey Eddie is that normal my buggy not wanting to turn right unless its moving??...hasnt been a problem just curious...it turns sharp enuff when moving but sitting still it varially turns..now if I drop my suspension it turns easier but then it bottoms out really bad I got maybe 3/4 inch spacers in the front...back is lower..I found it flies more level that way

take the servo horn off the servo and see if its binding any where, if not, alot of times tires wont turn when not moving and on the ground, lift the car off the ground and see if it turns good.

mine doesnt turn good when it is just sitting there either, you can move the linkage that connect to your servo to a different hole, i did that and it made mine turn sharper. i have mine on the middle hole.

Traxxas designed the vehicle to have it pop out/come apart rather than break parts in hard impacts.

its always a great thing when your suspesion is "designed" to pop out when in a race huh? i higly doubt that is was designed to do that, i think it has to do with what i said earlier about the popping out.

Here is a pic of what pops out and what does not. The top arrow does NOT, I have asked a ton of mugen guys if it does and they do not have a problem. The bottom arrow is what everyone complains about popping out (Mugens, Losi,s) have that problem and can be fixed with a bolt and washer screwed in on top. They said if the top one were to pop out it would completely break the knuckle and there would be no popping back in. (so they say) I have not had one pop out yet. Traxxas's need alot of mods and upgrades to be really track competitive without stuff breaking or coming apart. They appeal more towards the new people coming into the hobby and are not tough like 1/8th scale cars.

you can post all the pictures and explain all you like, everyone that i talk to that races off road, and these guys are hardcore not just someone who just started in the hobby do not like the pb suspension for racing, i am not going to argue with you about apples and oranges, i only race occasionally off road and mostly race on road 1/8 and 1/10.

Well i guess that the mugen is out of the question for hardcore racing, i think we should start racing the duratrax products instead.

its all good bro, i am just relaying what i have heard, i just think its a good idea to sell as an upgraded suspension and leave the suspension the way it is on the hurricane.

I was looking at the first pictures more and besides it being on what looks like a new hurricane I noticed the tires are different when what comes from factory and also the wing is a high downforce wing. Are those going to be changes too?

Here is a pic of the tires that came on my 'cane... (no longer in use, i smacked a curb and detonated a rim )

This thread has long outlasted it's usefulness in my mind... started good, ending badly.

Agree to disagree and be done with it!

Ok.. I did some research, (prowling online and paging through my RC mags.).
I looked at 4WD Buggies AND truggies. I did not look at Electrics or Road cars(cuz I dont know Crap about THEM .

The TOP of the LINE NITRO racers [Kyosho STRR(truggy), Associated RC8(buggy), O'Donnel Z01-B(buggy), OFNA HoBao 8.5(truggy), JamminX2-CRT(truggy)] all have King Pin style suspensions. These are expensive cars, going for approximately $500 to $700, or more.

The Mid level racers [Thunder TigerST-1 Pro, VTX-B1R(buggy), VTX-ST1R(truggy),Horizon Hobbies GS XUT Pro (truggy), GS CL-1 Pro(buggy)] and others are PBS suspensions. These cars are going for $300-$500 and less.

If You look in Magazine advertisments and Reviews (for top of the line cars) and especially the PRO RACE coverage, you will see that King Pin Suspensions are preferred. I would say that this Validates Ehroofs statement that HARDCORE racers prefer King Pin style suspensions.

There ARE exceptions to this rule(so dont bust my chops!). The Mugen Seiki MBX5R(buggy), Mugen Seiki MBX5T(truggy) are PBS suspensions and are listed in the EXPENSIVE category. I'm sure there are others too.

I define HARDCORE racers as fully Sponsored drivers with a Full Ride from the Factory, OR, those very competitive Club Racers who have to have THE BEST equipment.
A lot of us Here are BUDGET racers.(I know I am ). Redcat falls into the Mid Level racer category(look at the $$$), so I think we can expect Darrin to go with the PBS suspension. Looks like it is already in the works! If you have Gripes about the PBS suspension, NOW is the time to air them out. Constructive criticism is the order of the day! Vnmsgt 's idea to secure the tie rod ends with washers n screws is a Good idea! Keep em comming.....

i personally dont like it...I havent seen one in person but just looking at pics i dont like it....as long as its an option kewl...those who like pbs can have pbs...those that like kingpin can have that...my only gripe about the kingpin style is the bottom arm screws coming out...I have locktight'd them and everything..even put longer hex heads in...I got some ideas on how to fix it...untill then I'm just going to tighten them frequently...

I still always thought Kingpin C-Hub were different. My view of them are that on the Kingpin style the A-arm is bolted direclty to the knuckle on top of it and bottom and therefore when your a-arm hingpin mounts or arm hinge pin holes wear some you get a whole lot more play in the front end because the arms being bolted to the knuckle ball joint allows them to move side to side more. It did on my monsoon.

In the C-Hub design the A-arms are bolts the the Knuckle carrier and not the knuckle itself therefore when you hing pin mounts or arm hinge pin holes wear some you do not have the play in the front end as much because the Knuckle carrier will not move because it is not secured to the arms with a ball joint.

Hope this makes sense in writing.

vnmsgt...I agree...there is a diff between c-hub and kingpin...reason I said it looks to me like a grorified king pin is the simularities.....now in saying i dont like the pbs...if it comes as an option I prolly will try them out...just saying by looking at them I think the look weak

That is one thing I like about PBS. NO MORE STRIPPED KNUCKLES!!! I ALWAYS had to do that on my monsoon and now on my hurricane. I used longer screws too. I have my whole bolt covered in loctite and they still came out! hey that might be what the RED in REDCAT stands for. Use RED Loctite on those bolts in the knuckles so they do not come out but do not plan to take them out again when you do use that LOL!

Ok, I'm going to put a stop to this right now. All those that want to bicker about relationships with Redcat need to remember that this is a SUPPORT Forum which has slightly different rules than a general discussion forum. At this time these members are the Designated support staff for Redcat products:

  • Darin, Redcat Racing Owner (RedcatRacing)
  • Nick (Redcat Nick)
  • Dennis (Clermont Hobby)
  • Ed (ehroof)

This was designated here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6388865/tm.htm

Until the Administration of RCU is notified by Darin of Redcat these are the "Official" voices for Redcat in this forum. The rest of the bickering needs to stop now. Let's keep this thread on topic about discussing a new Redcat vehicle and leave the personal issues out of the thread.

Ken
