The Micro Estreleta was next.......

The little cox seemed true to the "old times".

wouldn't start.

ran great on the stand.....

It would run out a prime but must have some castor blobs in the venturi

Not having my ol trusty cox wrench with me decided to leave well enough alone and pick up the next plane in the fleet to send up.

The gear is for static display and wheelpants still need painted out red.

5 turns from closed
plug venturi and pull fuel up the line-just get it to the carb, do not pull fuel into the motor!
close exhaust port
drop tiny amount of fuel on port
wind the prop, motor should burp
Flip thru again to make sure the prime is all burnt out
Re-prime the exhaust port with tiny amount of fuel
Restart, should run at this point, if not clear out the prime with a few flips and try again.

Once running: starting needle position is at least 1.5 turns open from where it will lean out. The motor will not hot start from the running position with a prime once you have gotten it tuned in! You have to open the needle again at least 3/4 turn.

These motors have such a hard time getting past the friction of the old oil inside that priming and loosening up to a point that they turn freely is enough to flood the engine. If my .010's have been sitting for a while I just run it on exhaust prime until it warms and loosens up, then start the cold start procedure. I'm pretty good and repeatable with this technique, you might have luck with it too.

What are you running for fuel?

They both turned out gorgeous! How fast does the big'un go [roughly]? Next question, how fast does it SEEM like it is going?

If that .010 doesn't want to earn its' keep, you might have to go with the "big block" .020?

Dave, Thanks.
Running Hobbico 1/2a 25% fuel. Ran it ok before. I'll follow your protocol
cleaned out the venturi/checked glowplug/everything seems a go - put it on the test stand for a bit later...don't want to wake up the Easter Bunny.

CP, she is plenty fast for the maiden, decided to test fly on a 6.3x4 prop, fastest I ever had a 4" pitch prop go. I would guess 110-120? I think a 5.5x5 or 6 would be about right? What do you run on your .15s?

Japanman, Static rich twostroke on the 6.3x4 is 22,900 - Conquest carb & spinner

Damn - those look great!

Did you build the fuselages or is there somewhere you can buy those?

Looking Good Rob!!!

Looks *really* fast...Don't make me put the full Monty F5D power in the electric Penetrator I'm building-I don't know if I want to fly it like that.

How 'bout we just square off with handbags at 20 paces?

RR, the fastest props I ever ran on .15s were wood 7x5 Top Flites or Rev Ups. The props had almost no blade area and were paper thin. Taipan had a great 7x5 plastic prop also.
The last time I went out with a hot .15, it was with APC 6.5x5s [IIRC].

DAVE,
Tiapan ( Lion industries - I think ) down under carries the glow plug for those, but big money. I have a couple of those engines as well.
Let us know how it flies when you get it up in the air. Looks great.

Dave,
Your PeeWee Penetrator looks great!

I'd be a bit nervous with the head hanging down?

I'll be curious on your thoughts on that engine

Thanks for the .010 protocol.

Ran her on the stand a few tanks through.

I remembered that someone made them in Oz, but didn't know who... I have 5 plugs for three motors right now and plan to turn the burned out plug into a turbo head-I think it will work after talking to Gkamysz about the Tee Dee .020.

Might be worth picking a few up anyway... Thanks!

Well, it's been a while since I got the engine but I remember it being really long to break in.. The .06's are like that too, they take at least an hour of gradually leaner running before they will hold a needle. I did get to bench run the .03 a few times before burning it out in an Ace Pocket Rocket and remember it fondly. Throttle worked pretty well, and power was a close to a TD 020, and a little better without the muffler. Muffler's quiet and it sounds cool at an idle, as if trying to sound bigger and huskier than it really is. I can say that I like this motor better than the .06!

Good description!

Ran the .010 on the bench a few more times and put her back in the airframe today.
Ran a tank through and held the fuse in "unusual attitudes" - but then again, these would be pretty usual attitudes for most here

The little .010 needled well and didn't mind the changes in attitude and inversion - ran the tank out.
Felt to pull better than on the stand.

One thing amazes me though - this little engine sure can make such a big mess, in a hurry
