Electric conversion....
could use a carbon hacker F5D motor, stuff the fuse with lipos and have yet another flying welder

or could convert to a hot .15

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 5:50:49 PM)

as I was going through the steps, decided to knock out the little Micro Estrelita for an .010

combatpigg -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 6:51:16 PM)

RR, good looking planes! The penetrator wing looks like solid sheet?

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 7:21:36 PM)

CP - Penetrator wing is sheeted foam - a fairly thin section, however[;)]

Actually both planes have sheeted foam core wings, a very thin section on the Micro Estrelita

John makes a very nice light fuse, with good lines.

gabe200 -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 8:09:30 PM)

is the micro esrelita still avaliable thats a nice plane

combatpigg -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 8:10:54 PM)

It must be pretty light, it looks like there is wood inlaid along the aft end of the fuselage. The hardest part about working tiny molds is keeping track of how much cloth you've got laid down every where.
The inlaid C/F in the wing is pre-preg strips? Is this the only re-enforcement? I'm pretty sure I see tiered layers of C/F in a groove you sanded into the balsa skin? The plane does look big enough to haul a .15.

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 8:43:50 PM)

CP, there is no spar so I laid up three decreasing length strips of carbon ribbon on top of the wood sheeting.

gabe, I believe John does runs of these now and again.

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 9:05:40 PM)

gabe,

DeviousDave has the nicest micro.....

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 9:07:53 PM)

Check Out My Belly......scoop[:D]

The kits are extremely complete - all links and bits horns screws......

gabe200 -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (2/23/2008 9:36:57 PM)

they are nice love to have one i have 2 TD .010 one with trottle just wating for a plane like that

LoL, the two planes on the right were built by my Dad's Boss! I saw it fly at Mid-America E-Fly a few years ago, Ken is a great builder... one of those guys who has a spotless workshop (bleeuch!) and builds colorful, characaturish airplanes.

Can't wait for warmer weather... Been relegated back to electrics for the last few months. Wanna start carving props for the little guy!

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/1/2008 11:38:37 PM)

progress[:D]

combatpigg -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/1/2008 11:59:10 PM)

Lookin' gorgeous! A lot of detail packed into tiny packages. The .15 powered plane looks like it will really move!

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/8/2008 3:18:08 AM)

Penetrator Firewall

and mini me.

Frickin' pinholes[:'(]

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/15/2008 2:11:01 PM)

Oh Baby!

All one color[:D]

flyinrog -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/15/2008 2:45:42 PM)

Now thats pretty!!!!..sorry I dont generally refer to planes as pretty...but, dang thats pretty!!...Rog

gabe200 -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/15/2008 4:00:44 PM)

so where can you buy these kits

combatpigg -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/15/2008 5:21:51 PM)

With this plane, it looks like having some fun is possible?
RR, where do you fly these speedy little guys, living where you do?

skaliwag -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/15/2008 5:24:18 PM)

He had better come down to Santa Cruz and bring the .010 baby too.

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/16/2008 1:39:22 PM)

Rog,
Thanks - John did a really nice job on his plugs. And his glass work is nice and light but reinforced where it counts.

Gabe,
John at JM Glasscraft can be reached at 586-773-7069. I believe he has wing cores (kits) for both models.

CP,
Yeah it is a bit of a challenge anymore[:@]
Even the glow clubs/fields are starting to have decibel limits. At those fields, typically I wait till later as the wind picks up a bit and everyone goes home[;)] If I'm the only one left at the field and wearing earplugs and headphones and not more than 96decibels hit my ears it must meet club rules, eh?. Nice that they are concerned about my hearing[:)]
Or I fly with some speed guys at NASA AMES Moffet field who explore the higher limits of our models in the interest of aeronautical research.

Skaliwag, You will get your turn - I still think a throttled TD .020 with the 3 bladed prop in one of the micros would be "just about right".

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/16/2008 1:47:15 PM)

Rumor has it that DeviousDave has a new micro in the works...............

DeviousDave -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/18/2008 3:32:12 AM)

Actually, it's a late Xmas present from John....

PeeWee Penetrator with one of my Gmark .03R/C's in it.. HS55's on aileron and elevator and an HS50 on throttle. Will use a balloon tank thanks to PTUlmer, airfoil is similar to an RG14 with a little fatter bottom. [:o]He's been working on it slowly as all you Killjoys keep taking up his time with kit orders![:@][X(][X(]

Couldn't stand it... It's been too cold to fly any glow for the last few months. I braved it this weekend and flew my .010 modified microshark in 23 degree weather... After getting a flight in on my brushless 050 fan motor powered Sliver I went about prepping the .010 to Commit Aviation. Surprisingly, it started easily but I don't use a power switch for the RX and not dropping the wing screws is a challenge on a normal day. By the time I landed it my hands were truly in pain from the cold. They still hurt..

But it was totally worth it.

Speaking of PeeWee Penetrators, I have one with a VA in it that I have to maiden. Need a place to do it-I only fly out of schoolyards. I keep AMA for fly-ins and races but my type of modeling doesn't fit in with most club cultures. Have a bunch of planes that need a proper field to fly.[:o]

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/23/2008 1:34:13 AM)

Maidened the Penetrator today[:)]

hand launch was a bit hairy - pizza wheel gear is in order.

Tracks very well as I was concerned taking half of diehedral out.

RocketRob -> RE: JMGlasscraft Penetrator (3/23/2008 1:50:56 AM)

The Micro Estreleta was next.......

The little cox seemed true to the "old times".

wouldn't start.[8|]

ran great on the stand.....

It would run out a prime but must have some castor blobs in the venturi

Not having my ol trusty cox wrench with me decided to leave well enough alone and pick up the next plane in the fleet to send up.

The gear is for static display and wheelpants still need painted out red.
