COVERTDC3 -> Which electric heli is best for a beginner (2/24/2008 2:28 AM)

I have a friend who would like to learn how to fly helicopters. I suggested an electric for indoors to learn the basics. Not sure which is the best, Blade CP, HouseFly, etc. Which heli would be the best without spending a fortune to learn the basics of flight?

You are going to get a ton of opinions here. But one thing I'll say is not to get a Blade CP. I have one and as many people can attest to, they are very difficult to learn on.

A Blade 400 would be a great one to start on. Or a Belt Cp as well.

If you wanted a less capable but very easy to fly and learn on , the Blade CX and Llama 4 are great coaxial heli's, but get boring fast.

Others would recommend a Fixed Pitch heli for a first....I had a CX and then a Blade CP and now a TREX 450 and love it. I wanted to go straight into a collective pitch heli.

indoors, get a co-axial, outdoors get a 400/450 size.

Look at a Honey bee or a Falcon 40 or teh walker 4#1 or the 5#1. they are both fixed pitched ( FP ) not collective pitch (CP ) cp meaning the main rotor blades move for a lerner all he will do is put it in to teh dirt and will not want to fly again. the Heli i have posted above will run around $100.00 or cheaper and come ready to fly. i my self have a Falcon 40 and love it a I have a buddy that has a Honey Bee. and he realy likes it. the Falcon's tail boom is held on with screws and the honey is held on by glue in my oppion the screw way is better. check out these sites for the one you want .. http://www.ushobbysupply.com/ http://www.xheli.com/ http://www.raidentech.com/ these area just a few. we all order all of our parts from ushobbysupply and he also has some of the heli's above. Co-axial will teach you very little about flying a "normal" heli. I'm a beginner (2 months of "flying), and like Navy_1, I own a Falcon 40 FP. It's a great entry level heli to teach you how to fly. The best part is when you crash, a FP is very cheap to fix. I've had friends who only fly a FP (beginners are well), but because if their stick time on the FP, where able to hover a buddies CP with very little effort (meaning what your learn transfers).
