Hi Guys:
A little get together was held at the RC/PB field at Salem, CT on Sunday July 6th. We had a good group including WEDJ,Yogi, Rob Larson and Mad Man. We flew a few rounds and did some testing. Had another perspective member Smokin Joe out doing some novice stuff. Our leader, FB was unable to make this time but he'll be there next outing.
Here are a few pics of our flying day.
We have a shot of our planes, Yogi with his Skylark, the Kaos with Webra 61 BH (40% extra in the background) and our newest flyer, Smokin Joe.
SPA is alive in New England
Peace
Mark O

Glad you guys had a good time! I sure wish I could have been there, but in this case, family came first. You know the saying, "Happy Wife, Happy Life!"
I took a couple of vacation days this week and just buttoned up my WM Intruder. I'll be at the field tomorrow (CCRCC) and if all goes well, it'll see some air under its wheels. I'll give a report tomorrow.

Just got back from Salem field on my Monday holiday. Got to fly with some real SPA types. Most guys at the field were senior members and they all were old enough to recognize the orange Ambroid inside the Kaos. I put in 3 more flights trimming. Needs to have the hinge gaps sealed but otherwise going OK. The old Webra 61BH is running great and the plane is flying very well. Looking forward to the Tiger Tail with same powerplant. Not unlimited vertical but I don't think Bridi or Chidgey did either.

Hi Guys,
All of you seem to be having a great time and have really gotten this thing off the ground in Connecticut. The fly in is still set for August 23 at my field in Staten Island. I have been talking it up at my club and have the interest of many of the members. I am looking forward to seeing everyone with their SPA airplanes. I recently purchased and original Phoenix 8 kit from a club member who had it in his basement since 1985 and an OS 61 Max FSR. I will be looking for some help since I have no idea how to put this thing together. Seriously, I am going to build it with one of my club members who has some experience. But, could use any help or tips you could provide. See you in August

Thanks, that would be great and look forward to seeing eveyone. The field is located near the intersection of Richmond Ave. and Forest Hill Rd. I would like to begin at 10am if this is convenient for your crew. If you prefer you can call me at 917-692-3325

August 23 is just a week away. Times? Directions? I know the CT crew is planning on coming.
If that's the case WEDJ, we need to have a "tune up session" tomorrow at Salem. Sound like a plan?

would you be coming through the GW bridge? if so, take the tpke south to exit 13 Goethals Bridge, to 440 south bound towards the Outerbridge crossing, get off at the South Ave exit. (about a mile or two) when exiting make a left then go the light and make another left over the highway. Go straight about a 1/4mile and make a right on Travis Ave take Travis to Richmond Ave. Make right on to Richmond then go another mile or so and look for costco on your left. Pass costco make a left, that is forest Hill rd. Go a couple of hundred feet and see a sign on your right that says " field of dreams" go into that driveway and head up the dirt road and arrive at my field.

We will be coming from CT, so I think the GW would put us in NJ. Is that easier than going across the throgs neck bridge onto LI? Does the field have a proper street address? If so, the GPS will guide us. Ain't technology great?

Nic:
I make the trip down there all the time for work. Take the Merritt south to the Hutch (in New York) then take the Cross County to the Saw Mill/Henry Hudson follow signs to the GW bridge to NJTP south. Get off exit 13 Gothels Bridge and go over to Staten Island. Then take 440 south towards the Outerbridge Crossing and exit where John says South St.
If you take the Throgs to LI you would have to take the Grand Central to the BQE and down to the junction of the Gowanas and then cross the Verrazano Narrows bridge to Staten Island. There are alot more Tolls and Traffic going that way. GW is best. We used to leave Clinton at 05:00 and we would be down to exit 13 at around 07:00 on a Saturday morning.
Going home depended on Giants Stadium traffic. Best way is to take NJTP north to last exit 18, US 46 East follow 46 to GWB then take Henry Hudson Parkway north at Manhattan end of bridge avoids Cross Bronx mess ends up on Merritt.
If you go to www.yellowpages.com and then go to maps and directions and put in Richmond Ave and Forest hill rd you can go to birds eye and get a good look at the field.
Did you guys go to Salem today. I got there late and it was really windy. We had our grand daughter in the morning and it's sorta hard to leave when she's around the house. She is cuter than my broken Sr. Falcon.
I hope all the long range forecasts are WRONG everything from rain to hurricane/tropical storm depending on the channel you choose.
Peace
Mark O
