I've installed my Da-50 in my Yak 54 and the and now wanted to hook up my MTW canister and header pipe. The header pipe has a flex section and is supposedely is for the DA-50. The problem is the bend in the header pipe is so close to the flange that I cannot get a full lenth bolt in the side that is under the bend. I would have to cut the bolt off so short that only a few threads on the motor side would grab. What do I do now?

Do you have the 0 degree drop down or 25mm?
I need to check this with DA but please answer my question so I can get them more info. I kind of know what you are saying but I am not sure why I haven't heard this before as many have done the install with no problems.

Thank you for your question,
Reza

Hello,
It is a 0% drop. I've seen a few pictures in the internet of different 86" builds and they also appeared to have had similar problems. In the pictures on the side under the pipe bend the bolt head looks different. It looks like it might be a nut instead of a bolt head.
Thanks

Reza,
Problem solved. I was wondering how you could not know of this problem with the header. I just talked directly to MTW and the man on the phone told me that they have two different exhaust sets. A U.S. version, where the pipe runs a little farther out before the bend in the pipe starts so you have no bolt issues, and the European version which has a tight bend so all of the header stays hidden under the motor dome. He told me I had to put in a bolt on the motor side and use a nut to tighten. Do the MTW sets sold in the U.S. cause the header pipe to hang down far enough that you have to cut out the cowling?
Thanks

Reza,
I just looked at some of the yak 54 MTW header pictures here on RCU and it also looks tight (for the bolt) in the pictures also. Hmm, I'm not so sure.
Bye

Can you not get a allen wrench in the to tighten it or can you not even get bolt in there. If you can get the bolt in but cant get the allen wrench, which was my situation. here is my fix i cut an allen key on the small little L bend side almost all the way to the bend just leaving a little stub. Let me know if this makes sense.

Put a stud in the head, fit the manifold and nut at the same time and spin the nut on whilst moving the manifold towards the head.

No no no! I thought you Americans had a little more brain than that, hehe (It's a joke! Hope you can take it ;o)

Do like this (see the picture).

Now you can get your bolt all the way in. You can use some withAllen- or hex-heads (Don't know the correct word for it in english/american)

Regards from Denmark (Brain-country ;o)

Note to above: Put the "hard to reach"-bolt ALMOST all the way in to where it will start touching the exhaust/header WITHOUT the exhaust/header mounted. - Now slide in the exhaust/header and tighten the other bolt. Last you tighten the first bolt the remaining little bit.

Job done ;o)
