Quickie 25 vs. Club 40...fastest?
Today in Austin, Chuck Waller threw down the gauntlet and challenged some of the Club 40 Raider pilots with his Q25 Viper/OS 25FX on a 396' 2 pole course so we could get a better idea of the comparable speeds...Result: almost IDENTICAL SPEEDS! From what I saw, the Raiders will turn a little tighter but the Q25 regains some speed in the straights.
On Saturday, March 1, 2008, we are holding a practice race on the spacious Waco, TX field...(900+ ft.. runway); this gathering is to let pilots from different clubs throughout Texas get to know each other and enjoy some low-key competition and to better understand the different classes of racing held throughout the State. Hopefully, some of the Q25 guys and Club 40 guys will mix it up during the same race to up the fun factor - Join us if you can. Map to the field is on the HotMac website (http://www.hotmacrc.org/) We'll crank it up around 9:00 a.m. BRING YOUR OWN FUEL and a HARD HAT. Even if you have never raced, please come and fly some laps and get to know some new and friendly folks! This will be more of a Fun Fly / Racing / Meet your Neighbor type of flying...emphasis on FUN!

RE: Quickie 25 vs. Club 40...fastest?
That was a blast today!
I have flown my LA racer against the Q-25 planes last summer, but this is the first time I have flown my Q-25 viper against some of the BEST club 40 pilots Texas has to offer! Of course, that means the best club 40 pilots in the WORLD!!! The little Q-25 Viper held it's own for about 20 laps till I ran out of fuel!
Also got a chance to fly the Q-25 against a couple of 424 planes. The Q-25 did get smoked there! The 424 planes were about 15 - 20 MPH faster IMHO.
Looking forward to the practice race in Waco next week. Should be a load of fun!

I am pretty sure they will have drinks available. They have a concession stand on site and regularly hold large events.
If you want something special, you might want to bring it.
I think SOMEONE is going to go HUNGRY!!!

Well...I vote that Mr. Large has to EARN his food by beating Waller, Petrinec, and Fast Eddie...!

I tried to get a guy to do an episode of "Pinks" with my Q25 vs his Raider. He was chicken even with a spot.
I have a feeling there will be several such challenges this weekend as we will have some of the top pilots in each class at the field at the same time!
This is going to be fun!

"Smack Talk" is a BIG portion of the fun at all of our events!
They often hear the call "Ya'll better move over, I'm coming through!!!"
or - "Jim still holds the record for the most cuts in a 10 lap race!"
Can't wait for Saturday! This will be the first time we have seen most of the pilots since November.

How far North to qualify as North Texas?? San Antonio, Austin. Temple, Waco, Dallas??? I think most of our Central Texas Raider Racers would qualify to "smak talk" -- and smak talk we do, at least from what I've heard at the races last year..... The flip side is that I have never seen a group of guys sharing a common interest so willing to help each other or help a new racer........thanks, Y'all for a rewarding year in RC.....

RE: Quickie 25 vs. Club 40...fastest?
Just got in from Waco. Man, what a great time!
24 pilots from all over the state gathered together for some fun racing and just a little "Smack Talkin'". Several pilots drove 3+ hours just for a practice session!
This was the first time we have flown club 40 and Q-25 planes together in the same heat and it was a blast! It was generally agreed that the Q-25 planes held just a little edge in the straight but the club 40 planes out turned them every time! On the 400 ft. course, there was no advantage either way. On a longer course, the Q-25 planes might have a little advantage.
I am sure some one will post some pictures in the morning.
Right now, I just want my blankie!
I do want to extend a special thank you to Larry Garrett and all the HOTMAC members for their hospitality today. We were treated like Kings all day! We will definately be back to the HOTMAC field very soon!

Chuck;
Do you want someone to tuck you in with that Blankie and tell you a nice bed time story after they served you cookies and warm milk; Chuck said it all, a great time in Waco today. Larry Garret and the HOTMAC crew did a great job, I don't think anyone went without some great food and something to drink, and the racing was a blast; a great chance to get your feet wet if it was your first year, like me; learned a lot, lost a plane, oh well, part of game; I'll be there at ARCA April 5.

No Doug,
"Fast" Eddie made me stop and eat at Andy's landing on the way home. Cajun grilled catfish, Steamed vegitables, great pinto beans (W/ cheese, onions and Jalepenio's) topped off with Apple pie A La Mode!
Those last 50 miles driving home were a Bit&h!
I don't think I will need a bed time story tonight!

If we ever get the two classes together again set the pylons at 425 ft. now that would be an interesting race. Club 40 out numbered Q-25 at the meet, but I agree with everone's throughs it took the Q-25's a long time to get going but once they got up to speed a little faster on the straights, just not time to catch up. From a flying start like we use in Dallas-Ft. Worth Q-25 wins most heats.

We might just do that! Many of the pilots asked that we have another event like this later in the year. Most also asked that we have this event as the first event of the season next year.
I think that the q-25 group might start using the same type standing start we used at this race in the future.

Hay Jerry, if we go to the flying start then we should use a 375 ft. course. I’ll bet that by lap 5 the club 40 will catch the Q25 and by lap 10 be a half lap ahead. Just MHO.

I like the on the ground start better, it eleminates the question of "Was I past the line?" Everyone on the ground, wide open, the flag goes up,,,, Oh man I wanna play!!!!
Plus thats the start used in 424, 428 so it might make it an eazy to tansition if , and when guys move up.

LOTS of "behind the scenes" smack talk regarding this one!!!
Challenges have been issued and we might just have a team competition on the horizon!
Q-25 vs. Club 40 and Young Whippersnappers vs. Old Fogies!
Let's have some FUN!!!
