i have an old pica 1/5 spitfire..had its first flight in 1994..and only five flights since! Am keen to resurect this lovely old girl but would like to make sure the CG location is correct before its next flight.Does anyone have this info? A measurement back from the leading edge at the centre section would be very helpful.
Thanking you Pat

Use 5.5 inches from the leading edge at fuse sides. Pica plans are ALWAYS conservative for beginners. You will be fine at 5.5 inches.

Remember, a nose heavy plane may fly poorly, but a tail heavy plane may fly only once.

I suggest starting conservatively, then moving back if indicated. But that's just me. ;-)

Good luck!

On other forums most owners say the CG should be 4.5 inches from the leading edge measured at where the wing dowel is.

Just a warning that Spitfire will snap very hard if you try to fly it tail heavy. I had one, flew it at 4 in. and it was nose heavy. Lost it coming in to land, got a bet too slow without flaps and it snapped at the end of the runway. The landings are a bit tricky you need the flaps for sure.

It will not be tail heavy at 5.5 inches. Look past the plans and calculate and you will see.
