I am thinking about getting the Cessna Guan Li item #GL312 but I don't see that there are any replacement parts should I need them. This plane also takes a different battery than most other planes. Are extra batteries available? Has anybody tried this plane? Good.. bad?

This is a foamy.

Foamies can be repaired with tape and glue.

When it gets to the point you cannot do this, you want a new plane anyway, as it would have been through many serious crashes.

Batteries are not biggies.

Just match the voltage and you'll be fine.

You can be off on the voltage by 5% or so and not affect the electronics at all. Most electronics tolerate fluctuations greater than this...

e.g. I'm flying 11v LiPo's on a 8.4v plane which works great.

It looks like the battery is using a standard Tamiya style connector though I could be wrong. Most of the connectors used are readily available so you can wire up your own packs.

I'll bet the plane will be a bit underpowered with the default packs, but still flyable. Though I dunno, that's a BIG motor for such a small plane...

If you get the plane make sure that you charge the pack longer than your computed charge time to properly "form" it.

There are plenty of charge time calculators on the internet if the instructions do not provide a good suggestion.

BTW: I hope this is not your first plane, as it is not suitable for a beginner.

Your question about repairs hints at this.

If you are a beginner you really want a beginner's plane...

Thanks for the info. , No this is not my first plane, more like my 10th. I've patched them until they until they were a flying piece of epoxy and tape with a prop. Is Nitroplanes any better than Raidentech? Had a bad experience with them like a lot of other people. Wouldn't return phone calls or emails. I was hoping someone had already purchased this plane and could give a review. It says its new for this year. I like it for the larger motor and battery, but does that translate into better performance?

Re: Nitro versus Raiden.

Raiden is Nitro's parent company.

Nitro has done well by me. John ( nitrostaff1 ) takes care of problems quickly once you have his attention.

If you call you have to call in the later afternoon Pacific coast time. In all cases this is to handle things like missing or broken parts, & order issues, not for build instructions.

A 540 motor should be great for this plane. I have others which are heavier that use 540 motors ( actually a 540 means a 500 sized Mabuchi brushed motor ).

Given the combination it should do fairly well, and you could probably switch it to LiPo for better performance.

I'd fly it as is though.

Give the batteries a full charge then run them in house while cycling the throttle between 50% - 100% both to help break in the motor and to time what you can expect in terms of flight times. Doing this will be a worst case as the motor will unload in the air.
