After daydreaming at work : I was thinking about my worst r/c boat wrecks & damage done.

Back in the day when I ran a Prather tunnel w/3.5 ob. was some good times. Had it radared at 39mph. She'd turn on a dime & give you .09 back. Then again, she'd get flighty & go floating by at 6 feet in the air. Those were pretty cool.

Then there was the run in with the dock piling Split one sponson nearly off the main hull. A couple weeks later & all was good.

Then the most memorable one was riding in the fishing boat. I took the r/c rig along hoping to run it. So as we headed out, my Pops said for me to fire the little one up & lets race. For those of you that haven't done it; driving an r/c vehicle while moving along yourself isn't the easiest thing

So we are out in the river, water is smooth as silk & we get going. Talk about an interesting time. Pops had us just above planing speed & I buzz by throwing the rooster in our faces as we followed the little boat...

Then I move over to the side & behind, slow down till we passed & then gassed it. Something threw my mental balance off with the controls & I slammed into the back of the boat we were riding in knocking paint off the outboard & then colliding into the hull putting a good ding in the gelcoat. Damage to the r/c was a broken gearset in the steering servo.

But it cost me more work than what it was worth (then). Now that I can look back, I think I'll call home.

my worst wreck sunk my boat and i wasn't able to get it back. definatly taught me about floatation.

i was doing about what you were doing, driving my little deep v behind a real boat which my sister was driving. though i don't find it difficult, just fun. well, i glance forward and notice that she is heading STRAIGHT for an underwater sandbar that brings the water to about 1 foot deep. while i was turned around and trying to tell her to stop or turn to the right... my little boat had crept up on us. i turned around just in time to see the outboard's turbulance just suck the boat right underwater. i jumped in with jeans, shoes and a t-shirt trying to get it... but it was gone.

i'm just glad it was a sucky boat

My last run in the single-engine version of my current twin cat was memorable but scary. I was coming out of a turn when it hit the pipe hard and I somehow lost rudder control (or misjudged the exit of that turn ). It hit shore right in front of me and proceeded to tumble about 30 feet up the shore to my left. Prop was mangled, rudder broke, front of hull opened like a clamshell. There's nothing quite like the sound of a fiberglass hull cartwheeling across the ground!

Well I don't have picture, but I DID crash my boat! :'( I work construction and the job site I'm on is right next to a large pond. I took my boat to work with me today with the intention of running it after the shift was over. Some of the guys saw it in my car and begged me to run it at lunch. Wow did it fly! It was great to show them my hobbie, and at 45+ MPH this was not a toy. After work everyone left and I ran it again. It was great! The engine ran beautiful and the hull set up was perfect. I was about to bring her in and I lost controle! It went screaming at full speed twards the shore and smashed into a bunch of large rocks. I couldn't beleve how high it flew into the air! Thank god the carb got knocked off and the engine died. Everything is OK but the hull. It came apart at the seams and suffered alot of deep scrapes. I was surprized that it diden't crack. It can be repaired but It will take a long time. Something that I don't have right now. I was really looking forward to running it this weekend.

I have a picture of the boat posted under "pictures of my boats" Good thing I diden't speed the time to paint it!

Insane boat and pictures. Holy ----, that boat must have been a real mover... How fast?? It broke my heart to see that... Was it at all salvageable? I had to save those pictures to my computer, like Todd said, "Priceless"

It will do 100 mph! It is almost ready to go again. Here is a picture before the crash.

Here it is with the nose fixed.

Man, I've been real lucky so far! My worst was when my 7.5 tunnel went airborne after hitting an embankment at my local practice pond. I had noticed a green wire sticking out of the reciever bag not remembering what it was until later. It was a broken FM antenna wire! Anyway, I was getting it runnig and my Son was holding the TX for me while I launched it. He went to hand the radio to me then said that he had no control! The boat went across the pond just missing a small channel to the river and went flying over the embankment into the river! I jumped inot my retrieve boat and had to chase it down the river. That wan't so bad but trying to row back upstream was the challenge! Luckily all of the major damage was a broken motor mount.
My wife on the other hand was in a race and was coming down the front straight with her 3.5 tunnel. A half blind kid 10 year-old had been swerving all over the course running inot other boats during the day. My wife swerved to miss him and put her boat into the side of an aluminum retrieve boat at almost full speed! I thought that the boat was thrashed, I had even ordered a new hull but I did manage to repair it and it ended up by being my son's first race boat.

I remember a long time ago I had a big and heavy Prather 3.5 tunnel. Last turn of the heat the leader died right at the exit of turn 4. He had a tunnel that he had designed himself; made of balsa. When I exited the turn I decided to take the inside lane. Well if you ever had one of the original Prather tunnels you can recall how well they turn. Well guess who won that little collision. There must have been a thousand pieces of balsa floating all over the lake. He packed up and left so fast I didn't even have enough time to apologize. All that happened to me was it killed the engine. It's funny that I can remember that clear as day and that was almost twenty years ago. AND I'M ONLY 26. Wish I had some pictures to share of that one.

Another time one of our club members had built a beautiful homemade dingy (all painted in club colours - the works) I don't even think it was used when a twin 60 hydro lost control and went straight through the side of it. They couldn't pull it out. The guys actually had to cut a chunk out of the dingy in order to extricate the hydro. There are pictures (maybe slides) of that one floating around somewhere. Have to find out where.

You guys just brought back some of my fondest memories. THANKS!!!

Fondest memories? OK. I downloaded the video this morning of the 'rigger crash. You guys were prepared somehow with a shovel. You carry everything when you go run! I liked hearing the East Coast accent that you have, I haven't heard that since I talked to Remy Haynes Jr. from Aeromarine at the Toledo show.
I just got home from the Pond, I haven't even unloaded the truck yet, crappy day. I blew up my Kalistratov 45 for the second time, it tossed the needle bearings up into the combustion chamber again! Going shopping for a MAC or something better. The Hammerhead .12 lost it's header and the Speedmaster 21 had the nut that holds the carb linkage on came loose. Fun day! NOT! Didn't crash anything though.
