quick question . would it be stronger to have tubing bent and not welded at the corners? those would be the weak points on any roll cage i think. and if your the evil kinevil of nitro rc ahem...(kuppler)...ahem, you would need all the strength you can get out of a roll cage. just a thought is all it is.

You can add cross member bars in the bends to make it stronger

I think a Roll Cage would be a very Cool Custom Item. Can you make em Light enuff?
Also, I think a lot of people would buy a Custom made aluminun Bumper too, if you designed it to bolt up Cleanly.

I think if you made it out of aluminum it wouldnt be that heavy. The aluminum would probably bend on big impacts though so that would be a bummer.

actually with bends in the right spots aluim is very durable....would take some time to design one that is not only light, but durable as well...aluim will however crack in sharp bends...so if I was to build one I myself would weld any sharp bends

i am thinking something like this would work, its steel so it would be a bit heavier and duriable and the cage is not going to be that big so i dont think it would be more then a pound or two. they got 1/4 also i would have to see in person how they look.

i was thinking of using brake line tubing. it's easy to make bends with. and easy to cut out any sections that need to be replaced after a big impact. all the force of a hard landing on that cage has to somewhere and chances are it just might bend the chassis plate. i don't know about you guys but i would rather change a piece of tubing than the bottom plate. whats your opinion on the tubing? do you guys think it might work?

brake lines would work but they are hollow so they would bend pretty easy, probably just a few cartwheels would make it bend, but i dont know, be easy to make fixes though.

what if you took like cage under the chassis also so that way it will keep the chassis strong. im thinking about a cage that fits around the whole truck.

yeah to keep it from bending. get some type of eyelets or mirror fasteners and weld them to the cage to put screws through the chassis to hold it in. that way it can be taken off easy. i have the idea in my head. i will see if i can come up with something.

you might try incorporating the roll cage into the Aluminum Shock towers. what I mean is,ya might design the roll cage in 2 or 3 pieces that have anchor points on the Shock towers And the chasis. Multiple anchor points might add rigidity, and make it easier to work on the truck when you DO break something.

i was thinking about going over the shock towers and maybe integrating a bumper onto the cage so you can take off the plastic one.

why not do the roll cage kind of like they use in nascar. but make it so it can be easily attached to the bottom plate. by having tabs added to the bottom of each post that are flat with a hole drilled so it can be bolted to the truck. one whole piece that covers basicaly the whole truck with maybe a 1/4 inch under the body with just the body posts coming through. or make it a exocage with the body attached under the roll cage. just a couple more ideas to throw out there. then you can add what ever style bumper you like to it.
