I know there are a few threads on the problems with running Reflex XTR on the Vista operating system. There were questions that I had, that I could not find on RCU or any place else. My goal here is to let you all know what searching and some e-mails and phone calls turned up. Maybe this will relieve some frustrations for others.

I had recommended Reflex to two of my friends/students. Both friends needed a video card update, to run any simulator, but unknown to me, one of them was running the Vista operating system. No matter how many threads we read on the subject of running Reflex on Vista, nothing helped. We kept ending up with the program searching for .mod files. There was very little on the MRC website that was of any use. I found one remark, in a thread, by a representative of Reflex, that an update was being worked on that would allow normal program loading. That post was over a year old. So where was this update? I had seen this page: http://www.modelrectifier.com/rc-products/flight-simulators-features.asp , which didn’t even mention Vista. So what were we to do? I went to the Updates page: http://www.modelrectifier.com/rc-products/flight-simulators-downloads.asp and found that the last update mentioned is 5.03. There is a place on the page that says, Interested in obtaining these updates for your Reflex XTR simulator?
Clicking on this took me here:

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/default.php?cPath=21&osCsid=6d28028d22f127c6acd5d7fdea5768f7

I see in the left hand column that Version 5.04 is mentioned. Great! So I click on that, and it takes me here:

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/faqdesk_index.php?faqPath=20

There is nothing here about Vista! I continue through the left column menu to “minimum requirements”. This takes me here:

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/faqdesk_index.php?faqPath=20_27

Finally! Here it is mentioned that Vista and 5.04 are compatible. So, how do I upgrade to 5.04? This is free, right? All upgrades are free, right? I make my way down to the “Upgrades” section of the left hand menu. This took me here:

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/default.php?cPath=21

There is no mention of an upgrade to a Vista Compatible version. As luck would have it, I clicked on the “Reflex XTR Upgrade CD “. This took me here:

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=77

Finally, after hours of searching RCU (and other forums) and MRC, I find what I am looking for. It say's in the middle of the page, “If you are looking for an upgrade to the Vista compatible version 5.04 or later, PLEASE CLICK HERE, or go to 'Accessories/Service' and 'Hardware Upgrade'.“ I mean no disrespect to MRC, but this should be on the home page, under simulators! Unfortunately, clicking on this takes you here:

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/default.php?cPath=27_33&language=en ,

which is of no help! I finally contacted the distributor who sold us the 5.03 version, and they had someone from MRC call me. OK, finally, here are the answers I wanted! Yes, 5.04 will load just fine in Vista. There is a $65.00 charge for the Upgrade, and $8.00 shipping. Send your dongle and cord to MRC, with a check for $73.00, and they will send you the new dongle, cord and 5.04 CD. I wanted to know why there was a charge for this upgrade, when all the others have been free. There is a simple answer. New technologies/features are now available. The old dongle is not capable of handling these new capabilities. The $65.00 is for the hardware upgrade. The software upgrades continue to be free. I can buy that! The guy's at MRC were awesome to deal with! My only recommendation is that they make the information on the 5.04 upgrade more obvious. There are a lot of these simulators out there, and some may abandon Reflex if it is too hard to find the information. It is kind of like us men not stopping to ask for directions. We want to find the answers on our own. If I had placed a call to MRC first, I would have saved myself about 4 hours of search time, and another 4 hours of trying to make 5.03 work on Vista. My friend has now sent his dongle and cord back, and we are looking forward to the upgrade arriving. I hope all this helps!

If this information is a duplicate of anything somewhere else, I apologize for the repeat. I couldn't find it in all my searching.

Happy flying guy's!

Andy

I see what you mean. All my links are now useless. I need to upgrade my Reflex. I bought a new radio, and now I can't even find the correct cord in stock anywhere. I love the sim, but this continues to be frustrating!

The easiest way to make Reflex work with Vista is install it on a computer with XP, then burn the Reflex folder (program flies) off onto a disc, then put the disc in your Vista computer and drag and drop the folder onto Vista, then it should work fine. I have been doing this for
over a year now (probably 7 or 8 times) and it always works great, it even works with Vista 64 bit. This is with Reflex 5.03, I don't know about 5.04, I've never tried it.

You can put it anywhere you want, I personally put it in program files.
