cactus hopper -> Servo jitters, all of them (2/28/2008 7:04:02 PM)

CopterX with HS 65mg's, Esky tx and rx. I have plenty of extra tx's, rx's and crystal sets. I'm going to start with the rx crystal but I really think I've got a bad tx.

Well it's not the tx or the tx crystal, it flies an HBK2 great.

Cactus hopper,

Did all servos start jittering at the same time, if so, you may have an interference problem, or a servo going bad, that's back feeding into the system.. Try process of elimination. Keep track of what servos you disconnect and what order. Start by removing two servo's from the RX. Initialized heli, and see if that servo jitters. If it does, unplug it, and plug in a different one and keep the process going.
You may want to remove the blades for testing, and don't forget to power down and power up after each servo is unplugged or replugged. Just guessing here, but doesn't cost anything, but a little time. Make sure that the toaster isn't plugged in![:D][:D][;)]

Right before the rpm gets high enough to lift off all of the servos just start going nuts. It acts just like one does when you plug in the receiver before you turn the tx on. Never thought about a bad servo because they are all new. I'll try that. Thanks.

Cactus Hopper,

That's new to the equation, RPM's. Hmmm, you may want to unplug and clean the contacts on the RX crystal and reseat it.

Already did that. Put a new crystal in the rx and the jittering got worse so I put the other crystal back in. Unplugged the rudder servo from the gyro and the jittering stopped. Could it be that the Esky 0704A gyro doesn't like metal gears? I'm going to put a carbonite HS 65 on the rudder and see if the jittering comes back. If it does I guess it's a bad gyro, if it doesn't I guess it was a bad rudder servo.

Cactus Hopper,

The gyro doesn't know what kinda gears ya got.[:D][:D][:D] You're on the right track, keep us updated. Hope for a bad servo, less expensive.

I left the HS 65mg on and unplugged the gyro and plugged the HS 65mg into the receiver, the jitters are gone now. Looks like either a bad gyro or it's just not compatible with the HS 65mg. I'm going to put an Align RCE 5000X gyro on the CopterX and put the 0704A on a Belt CP or HBK2 that just have rate gyro's on them. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Cactus Hopper,

Well, glad I led ya on the right road anyway.. You've got a good handle on it. Always something to hit the old wallet! [:D][:D]

Well I did have a similar problem once that was only occuring with the servo that controls my blade pitch. Every time that I tried to hover, all of a sudden that servo would start making rapid jitters that would cause lift to momentarily be decreased and increased. I unplugged the motor, and to my astonishment, the servo was behaving fine! I could move the throttle up and the pitch servo would move up slowly and smoothly. I ended up having to replace the RX, and that fixed the problem.

cactus hopper -> RE: Servo jitters, all of them (3/20/2008 12:58:02 AM)

I put all the electronics, motor and ESC except for the servos in another heli and had the same problem. I put a ferrite ring on the ESC and it solved the problem. It might just be Esky quality but from now on I'll have a ferrite ring on everything, Esky or not.
