Hi Steve,

that looks very fine, your hatch. I made the same in my Waco, nearly the same size.I took plastic hinges, a bit lighter.
Why didn´t you mounted the hinges under the Plywood, for a better optic?

Bernie

Hi Bernie!! Bernie the hinge will be "under" the surface when I'm done. There is that aluminum sheeting that goes over the plywood. I will put the hinge between the wood and metal when I'm done. I'm going to try to get a plan for the PowerBox and recevier mounting location today, maybe the throttle servo mounted as well.

Here are some photos of the engine ignition & timing computer, smoke pump, mounting as well as fuel tank. Also another hatch made to access fuel and smoke fillers as well as ignition battery and powerbox battery switches. You can see the tailwheel/ rudder servo mounting .

Hi Bernie. Those linkages were what came in my Extreme Yak 54 ARF... I crashed it real bad so I just stripped them out and saved them for another project.
You can get something similar here http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/Models/Accessories/ServoAccessories/Hangar9.html

These rods are made of titanium. I got 4 of them with the Yak kit. So I decided to use them on this build. I will use 2 of them for the alerions. They are reverse threaded on the ends. that means if you turn them on direction they will get shorter or longer depending on which way you turn them. No need to disconnect them to adjust the length.

Bernie that landing gear is so nice. It really works smooth. When the wings are on it it will ride so nice on any surface. Just the right amount of spring. not to soft or hard. They will absorb landing shock real good. The tail wheel is also just the right feel to it.

Steve,
one question about the ball links: this linkages have on right thread and the other side one left thread,
what´s about the ball links, are they classified in left and right, or is it egal, because the linkage cuts
the thread in to the plastic?

Bernie

Bernie. the threads on the shaft cut the threads into the ball link as you screw them on. So if you get lets say a 4/40 size shaft then you need 4/40 ball links./40 size is about 3.5mm I think.

Here are a couple of photos. One is the throttel servo and the other is the tailwheel fairing. This faring just about drove me crazy in trying to get it cut and fit the correct way. I think I worked on it about 6 hours altogeather. Thank God it is done!!!.

Hi Steve,

great job, you are doing. It´s a strange tail fairing, I never did look to the tail of a Stearman.
Why did it took so long time to install?
Do you install a servo for the choke, or do you handle it manual?
What are this linkages on the pic for?
So many questions......you see, I´m very curious

Have a nice sunday

Bernie

Bernie those fittings are for the stab bracing wires. There will be two on each side top and bottom. I'm useing 4/40 rods with threaded ends on one end only. I'll solder the other end.

Landing gear fairings. I had to make a new pair of fairing braces for the lower end of the fairings. You can''t see them in this photo. But the kit supplied ones are made of balsa. They are basic tear drop shaped pices with a hole inside to go around the gear leg and form the fairing shape. The stock gear are of a smaller diameter then the Serria Pression gear I have on the plane now. And the balsa pices are only 3/16 thick. I used them as a pattern to get the shape and then made the hole 7/8 inch instead of 5/8. I also made the parts of 1/4 plywood so I could screw the fairings on and then be able to remove them if I needed to work on the landing gear in the future. I may apply a light fiberglass overlay on the fairings as the plywood is very easy to damage. The plywood for the fairing is only 1/64 thick.

The pencil line you see in the photo will be the final shape of the trailing edge of the fairing.

Steve

which size are those wheels? They look good, Robart or Dubro?
I´m searching for lighter wheels for my Waco, because she´s near to the limit here in Germany = 25 kg =nearly 50 lbs.
I love your sierra gear, thats great. Sierra has here in Germany a good name, but Darrel has his prices
You mail me, when you recieved the turnbuckles.
